Unhappy Whistle noise on my 2020 GLB250

I didn't order the acoustic comfort package but I didn't think I would hear so much noise outside the window on a $70,000+ car.

I own a 2020 GLB250, and have the same problem, however i can't always replicate the noise, it seems to depend on the outside wind conditions, i took it into the dealer, and after 2 days in the shop, and test driving it they couldn't hear the noise.
Seems like the only way to resolve this issue would be for them to take it to a wind tunnel.

Found this on the NHTSA site which appears to report a fix and that MB is aware of the issue.

Thank you for finding this and I want to try it out, but dont understand how this method reduces the gap that is causing the whistling noise. Anybody tried it out?

im assuming prevents wind from getting in housing causing a whistle

Thank you, yes, if that is the reason for the whistle, i see how this tape solves it. But I suspect that it is the groove between the frame and housing that causes the whistle.

Perhaps. I did the fix suggested earlier and put the gasket in that space and it only reduced it a tiny amount. So fingers crossed that the tape will work. I have a similar groove in my '18 Q7 and there is no whistle.

It appears this fix addresses the bottom of the housing, not the top like CaptainOats'?

Worked for me but its a little left but barely noticable.

I have ordered the hybrid versiob and will get that in January so interesting to see if it has the same issue.

I skipped AMG package and panoramic roof.

i just purchased a 2020 and mine does that as well even at lower speeds. I’m supposed to bring it back in as soon as I can get a loaner and we’ll see what happens next. Disappointed as well for spending nearly $70k on a “Benz “

I rest drove another gle 350 and it was fine but the one I paid a deposit on and took home to sleep on has the same whistling problem near the drivers window ,the salesman took it to sevice before I signed the paperwork and said they heard nothing. On the drive home I recorded a video and sent it to him,he confirmed and said he’d schedule a day I could get a loaner from them while it’s in sevice. We'll see how that turns out

I've had mine in service 5 times at 2 separate dealerships for this. The first dealer kept adding more of the 3M tape n the seal where the mirror housing meets the plastic black trim piece as per the MB bulletin. It didn't do anything. The 2nd dealer replaced the upper housing of the mirror as well as add the tape. I didn't heart it at all on my 30 min drive home and when it was windy the next day with just the right amount of gust and direction I heard it do it again. Today, I took it out and heard nothing (nice day). It really depends on the wind direction and velocity. Dealer has no solution at this point. I'm debating putting a few dabs of silicone when I see any 2-4mm openings where the upper and lower housings meet to see if that will help. Anyone have any suggestions clear products to do this with that wouldn't yellow with weather and sun exposure?

The Tub & Tile Silicone won’t yellow but will also be difficult to remove.

I have a different wind noise. It is a low harmonic very loud "rumble" or fluttering sound coming from the upper right corner of the windshield or the front right corner of the sunroof. Since it occurs at 85 MPH plus speeds I haven't worried about it too much. My wife took the vehicle to the dealer last month for a minor item and mentioned this dreaded howling but as suspected they couldnt replicate the noise.

If you decide you want it fixed.... Record it with your phone & they don’t need to replicate it. I usually make more than one and have never had a problem with the Mercedes Dealer. In video mode you get sound and can record the speed. It might be helpful to document the date, wind speed and direction (from that days forecast) vs your direction of travel.

Why didn't I think of that! It happens whenever I am in your western interstate highways. I'll be on I-70 Kansas and Colorado in a few weeks so unless it's snowing I'll be hearing it for sure as always do on I-80 and I-70.

Likely the dealer's tech would not be authorized to drive your car at 85 mph - ron.s's suggestion is a good one.

I’ve provided 4 videos of my problem to 2 dealerships and honestly didn’t help much. The first time the agreed they hear it on the video but after the MB “fix” they said they did what they could irrespective of the video. Told me to call MB corporate. Mine is very direction and wind dependent sometimes not there and sometimes very loud

Hopefully it will be snowing. We're approaching half million acres of fires burning here in the Rockies!

I finally took mine to the dealership for the "fix" and it did nothing. The service manager, who is a real nice guy, said that the tech did the repair and took it out for a ride and it was good to go. I knew it wouldn't be. I got up around 70mph driving home and the whistle was back, maybe even louder. Apparently, this fix is to disassemble and reassemble the housing? I thought I was getting a new mirror but I guess not. Beyond frustrated with this issue. I'm going to demand a new mirror.

Wind noise

I have the same issue. Wind noise from driver side window upper front at 60-75 mph. Also more concerning is a pressurized sensation at higher speed. Feels like high altitude in airplane ear pressure around 75mph. Doubt that is anything that can be fixed other than driving slower.

Yes, the wind/road noise overall in the GLE is terrible. I had the last version of as well and the wind noise in that car was much lower. The engine was better too but that is a different story...

I have a 580 and I’ve been impressed thus far in that the vehicle is extremely quiet and very smooth riding overall. The only thing I notice on occasion is a somewhat rough downshift from 3rd to 2nd gear. So far, so good in 3 months of ownership.
