SMS Text Messages iPhone XS

Just got my new GLE 350. It seems that I cannot read my text message while driving; only have them read aloud. Is there a way to see the entire text message rather than have it read aloud?

I think that’s a good thing. This way you keep your eyes on the road instead of reading a message.

Judging from the owners manual, it appears MBUX doesn't have an option to display the text message. You can only have it read aloud. The latest COMAND system has the option to display the text message and in addition it can be read aloud. I suppose they have gone the less distracting route with MBUX and only support read aloud. Reading a text message while driving is not exactly a good idea anyway, but it is kinda nice. I rather quickly glance at a new text message and if its longer it can either wait or I can have it read aloud.

Had an instance where the text messages stopped displaying on the center display. I'd hear the notification on my phone, it would temporarily appear in the upper right hand corner and then disappear. Glitch? Could not replicate one I restarted the car.

You can actually read a text if you are stopped. The actually text does not load into MBUX. Must be a software glitch that this happens from time to time. Now that the car has been restarted, it seems fine.

I just ran into this same issue with messages not showing up. Has anyone had better luck since iOS updates or newer MBUX software versions? I'm wondering if it's more consistent now or if it’s still hit or miss. Also, did anyone try disconnecting and re-pairing the phone to see if that helped with getting texts?

btw, fixed it by turning off Bluetooth on the phone for a second, then turning it back on and reconnecting to the car...messages showed up after that.

and had the same setup with my GLE, texts only read aloud while driving. Ended up using a service like bulk sms for messages I really needed to see, so I could check details safely when parked.

If you all want to be distracted while driving, then just look at your phone.
