Purpose of LTE
So the trial on AT&T’s LTE expired and was wondering if I should continue with the service or not. I noticed that during the trial the car used very little of the available data so that got me questioning as to what is the purpose of this, other than having a different phone number assigned to the car. Can you comment if you use the car’s cellular service and for what purpose? I may be missing some awesome feature of having that feature in the car so I thought I’d reach out!
Thanks!
The main benefit is the real time traffic information which requires the LTE connection. If you don’t use the Porsche navigation but only use CarPlay then there won’t be much value.
The other benefit is Porsche Car Connect which uses the LTE for the remote services (sending an address to the car, locking and unlocking the car remotely, turning on the air condition from your phone, checking the petrol and hybrid battery charge level)
What I am using it for exclusively is TuneIn streaming as it's baked into MBUX. I could be using my iPhone app via bluetooth for that but I find the baked in solution to be easier to use.
Does anyone know how is the remote unlock, GPS destination address, engine information sent/received between MercedesMe App and the car?
Living in Canada, I don't think i ever have LTE services activated and somehow my car is able to receive GPS destination info sent from my phone, the moment I step inside my car that is parked in an underground garage (where there is no cellular reception).

With the Mercedes you only need a subscription for the hotspot. The e-services are free for now.
