Air Conditioning Issue

Have a new issue with my 2020 GLE450. AC works sometimes...but eventually air changes to floor and gets red hot...Only way I can get cold air is to put on LOW. Off to dealers today.

Another mercedes common issue.

unfortunately the part you need (the overhead console) is on a 3-4 month back order :-(

if you strike it with your hand gently it will temporarily resolve it.

You were right. Overhead console. However they claim 5-7 days from Germany...Guess I shouldn't hold my breath?

Trust your Dealer - parts shipment from Germany is not uncommon if that is where the part is manufactured or assembled.

If asked in a few days - your Dealer will have access to the order to know it has shipped but will not have tracking in-route

It doesn't matter what someone else encountered different/dealer/different-time... the ONLY thing that is important is what your dealer told you.

Once a Part Order is entered for the Repair Order - if that Part Order is confirmed from US Stock or Germany Stock - then that Dealer Parts Dept know the expected ETA - if the Part is not avail US/German stock and goes on Backorder - then that Parts Dept knows it is on Backorder and will advise you accordingly the estimated Arrival Date thru your Service Adviser

Well I’m still waiting... admittedly, Covid has got in the way, but it was ordered early March and it’s not here yet...

I've only had one in 14 months. Easy to conclude that without knowing all the data.

Mid level Benz, year one model. Loaded with tech that even SA's don't understand. Local dealership has a parking lot full of GLE's waiting for parts on back order. Also, just look at all the issues on this forum.

They are so bad that I just ordered a 2021 GLE53. You’ve made the same point numerous times and are correct to some extent. Every Brand is having trouble with parts quality on redesigns and Covid has created some shortages. The Tech seems pretty solid to me. There have probably been well over 100,000 GLE’s produced by now so the number of owners reporting issues here doesn’t seem out of line.
Sorry, but I have to call BS to the parking lot full of GLE’s waiting on parts. 5-10 maybe if it’s a large enough dealer but a parking lot???

2021 is the way to go. As stated, year one models are the ones to stay away from. I need to correct, not a parking lot full but easily 8-12 GLE's waiting for parts. Congrats on the 53, it's definitely the way to go. Those 350's are so underpowered can't imagine any fun driving one.

Ours is doing pretty much the same thing. Going to make appointment with dealer this week.
Can someone clarify what several have been referring to as the overhead console? Seems like you can temporarily fix by tapping on this but I’m not sure what they are talking about.

There is a thermistor (temperature sensor) in the overhead console. From the "hit it" replies I've seen, I'll assume there's either a bad solder joint or a crappy connector somewhere. If this were to happen to my car and the part was on backorder, I'd remove the overhead and repair it as needed. I think the supply chain issues are slowly resolving however and for most people, getting it replaced under warranty is the obvious choice.
