They are saying parts for the GLE 53's are having shortages. My order is a fully loaded 53, so I may have screwed myself. Still it feels pretty harsh to get pushed back 3 months right out of the box like that. Here's what I ordered:

2021 GLE 53 AMG SUV
Obsidian Black Metallic
Pano Roof
21” AMG twin 5-spoke wheels
AMG Black Nappa Leather w/red seat belts
Dynamic Plus Pkg
Driver Assist Pkg
ParkIng Assist Pkg

Exterior Lighting Pkg
3rd row Seats
Soft Close Doors
Metal Weave Trim
Rear Power Side Shades
AMG Heads up display
MBUX
Hitch
Massage seats
Performance exhaust
other options

3rd week in sept. in Danbury CT. Now I know what John Oliver was talking about. lol. Seriously though, not blaming dealership, it's not in their control, but I'm thinking about calling MB US. to complain about the lack of transparency in their car ordering system. Because they don't give you any chance to change or amend your options based on which parts are delayed.

The November build date probably came from the Dealer not Mercedes. Mercedes estimated builds have been out 3-4 months since launch.
I ordered in late June with original early October build that was moved 30 days to November ... then build started October 28th-almost exactly 4 months from order. I might have gained a month by modifying a dealer stock order but they lock soon after acceptance. Mine will be almost 5 months to delivery from the order. The pent up demand, backlog of orders and parts shortages may make delays a norm for now.

Frustrating with push backs and parts delays. Was this a modification of a vehicle already ordered for dealer stock or did you place an order awaiting allocation? I've ordered both ways and much prefer the ability to modify a dealer stock order.

When I placed the order at the end of December 2019 for my GLE53 I got a production slot in May. And at that moment there was no COVID-19 and related issues.
So at this moment unless you modify a car already ordered for a dealer' stock I do not see how to can get a production slot in 2 months after order with all these delays. My guess is that November was an overly optimistic estimate from the dealer.

I'd agree with the others about that dealer's initial (optimistic) estimate. I ordered on Aug 23 and was told by my SA late November/early December but most likely later (he'd get a better estimate days/weeks after the actual order was placed). About 3 weeks ago, he updated with early Jan build, expect delivery late Jan/early Feb.

I placed my order on 8-21-20 for a GLE580, the dealer had a allocation for a 11-21 build date. So far I have not heard of any delays. Hopefully it stays on track. I do agree that some dealers may be estimating and not basing the time on a allocated slot.

Just received the good news that my wife’s AMG 53 arrived by semi today and was unloaded at the dealership. Original Order date was July 1, 2020. Yep, a long 129 days. In the final stretch to pick this one up. Having the front side windows tinted to match rest of SUV for a unified look.

They should have prepped and ready to pick up by Wednesday.

That’s got to be a record turnaround time. If my math is right that’s only 10 days from going into production to delivery.

Dealer said it came to Indy by semi and not train. Not sure if that made shipping faster than train ?

But yes, we didn’t expect for another week or two.

Sales Mgr at my dealership told me they are pivoting to truck whenever possible. Much faster than train. Railroads prioritize higher revenue freight. My car came by train and it took 8 days from Vance to NJ. Then 3 days for a truck to NY. Would have been no more than 4 days by truck.

How does this work? What is this build acceptance I hear people talk about? Am I in line ( in a cue ) with the dealer waiting to get ordered from MB, (and MBUSA don't know I exist yet) or has the dealer already sent my order to MB USA and THEY have put my order in the national line waiting to be built? Asking because having been pushed back 3 months right away, how do I know it won't be another 3 months after that, while other GLE 53's from other dealers in the country leapfrog over me. thanks, b

The question to ask your dealer is whether your order was an allocation of a vehicle already on order (whether for stock or for a buyer who changed their mind) which could be changed before it went "red" in Netstar OR are you in the dealer's queue for the next available allocation. The way you know that your order is in the system to be built is if your dealer can furnish you a PO number from Mercedes. Sounds like your dealer isn't being totally communicative. For this priced vehicle, you should have more transparency and more thorough, patient explanation of the process.

Until the dealer has an open allocation, you are just on the dealer's list. Once your order is submitted with an allocation, the next step is Mercedes accepting the order and estimating the build (decade) date. At this point you should have a PO number. If a dealer can't give you a PO number, you don't have a real order.

The general order situation with any Dealer, Mercedes or others is much the same. When a vehicles demand exceeds supply the allocation process becomes more of a factor. Your Dealer has cars allocated based on factors determined by Mercedes. Larger Dealer with higher sales will get more cars allocated than a smaller one.
For example-your Dealer has an allocation for 3 GLE 450’s currently. They have 2 in the order system so there is now room for a retail order that will get assigned an expected build date a few weeks after the order is placed. In your case that appears to have happened so you aren’t waiting for allocation. But some Dealers could have ordered all of their allocation and could have several pending orders placed without allocation so a new one will get in line and could take longer than normal.
It seems that recent orders have been built ahead of schedule so yours could build early. On the other hand, more COVID delays of Components could push the schedule back. My Dealer recently told me that both Mercedes and Porsche are building faster if the vehicle is more basic with less options. The more options ordered the higher the risk of one component delaying the build. I’m an optimist but believe that the worst is over. It’s a great SUV and worth the wait.
Ask for a screen shot showing your order data.

It was not already ordered. They had a slot/allocation for the 3rd week in November and I put in a totally custom build from scratch. I have a PO#, so it sounds like I am in MB USA waiting list to be built?

Yup. With PO number you are in Mercedes production sequence. That is a true positive indication that you will actually get a car. And if they complete the transition from rail to truck transport, it will arrive several days sooner than my car.

I priced out my build at 4 dealers in the North-east. 1 in NJ - no discounts , 2 in NY - $1-2K off flat rate, 1 in CT - 3-4% off.

In the current market, a 3-4% discount is excellent. My dealer who is routinely high volume/low price is saying that the most they are doing on scarce vehicles is $1000-1500. The North Jersey dealers won't negotiate even in the best of times. Just beware of markups below the line-- such as lease acquisition fee, money factor and other charges like documentation fee.

We got 4.5% on GLE53 SUV + $500 corporate supplier discount. But that was back in July when we ordered. Guessing dealers are not as aggressive now.

The only fee dealer charged was $195 documentation fee.
