But I did get into the map updates section on the Mercedes Me web portal and determine that it only seems to download your specific region automatically. I'll try a manual update of another region and see how that works. It also seems to indicate a voice recognition update with no automatic download. I'll check that out in the car shortly. Nothing like playing with trivial car settings to keep me from actual income-generating work.

Not quite. For the most part yes, it's a different UX, but we can now send destinations again directly to the car from apps like Google Maps. This feature was dropped for some reason in the previous app. The bigger change is that the new team behind it has committed to more frequent updates, so the app should evolve over time with new features and we should see regular updates. Contacting customer support also never worked properly in the old app. I just submitted two tickets for issues I found and got confirmation that it was received. Time will tell if they actually quickly respond and fix the issues.

Yes and it looks different. Only the iOS app has been updated it seems. So if you use Android, the new app hasn't been released. The new app looks like this. One of the issues for me is that I get a generic car picture instead of my actual car. I had the same issue with the old app. Hopefully, they'll fix this.

I've got iOS, but mine hasn't updated yet. Will give it some time. Edit: I had to delete and re-download the app to get the update.

Just go to the Updates section in the App Store and pull down if the update doesn't show and then manually update or you can just wait until it updates automatically. You do have to login fresh with a code that gets emailed to you and you have to reauthorize the app in the car.
Its a bit more than cosmetic. I had to manually update via iPhone apps-auto update did not detect update available. Also after updating, the app asks for a code sent via text or email in order to complete log on. This 2nd certifications was not previously required.
Take not that if your email is down you will not be able to log on. But if you log on with your cell phone, the program sends you a text with verification code which works great

Yes, the old app did that, too, but could be turned off in the settings. The new app doesn't have settings for many of the things yet. Maybe they get added in the future. It's part of the security notifications. Actually now that I think of it, there's a notification setting in the new app. You can turn it off if you don't like it. It sends alerts if the battery is low, too, etc. Kinda neat if you forgot to lock the car. I do leave it unlocked in my garage as well, and just dismiss the message.

What do you mean buried in the engine menu? It's one tap away like in the old app. Just tap on the engine button in the top section of the screen and then you are right there to start the engine. Wasn't any different before. But now it gives you clear information about the conditions that need to be met, for example if the car is not locked, you get the option to lock it first before you can start the engine. Last time I tried this in the old app and the car was unlocked it just wouldn't start with no explanation.

Just did that and received the new UI. Thanks I wonder why a reinstall is needed. I also wonder what they means by the new app on the notification with the old UI.

Google just hasn't finished rolling it out I guess.
The old app was probably just alerting you about this new app update.
