Off to a BAD start

I've had my 21 AMG GLE53 Coupe for 3 weeks. This morning it wouldn't start. It had to be flatbed towed into my dealer. Now for the bad news. It has a defective 48 volt battery. They are on back order with Mercedes and they don't even know when they are coming in. Plus there are 3 cars ahead of mine at the dealership waiting for the same battery. It seems a bunch of them were defective. Not a happy camper.

This place is a joke.
The 167 chassis is turning out to be the biggest lemon ever produced by MB, yet people keep buying them.

I don't know because the car is at the dealer.... I assume it's on the door pillar.

I'm interested to know two things, for Mercedes' ranking with other premium and luxury brands:

- percentage of MB owners or lessees who are new to the brand, in other words first timers.
- percentage of MB owners or lessees who are repeat offenders, I mean repeat customers.

I fully expect a large number of posts on this site indicating that he/she has owned tens of Mercedes vehicles since the 1960s. Rather, I prefer to see data from a third party market research firm with longevity in this type of measurement.

It seems like MB would have lower than average repeat customer percentage, based on decades are egregious flaws in their products. The list of design and manufacturing problems would take a long time to compile. I'm referring to repeated, obvious and major defects in their products.

It's too bad, really.

What I find interesting is the tolerance that owners exhibit. It's become pretty normal to simply accept that your 80k+ luxury SUV is having "teething" problems and tech glitches but I they love everything about it regardless. It's all about driving a three pointed star it seems.

This is not unique to Mercedes. I've owned many brands and have seen similar issues across the board. I purchased a Volvo 850R back in 1996 and it made numerous visits to the dealer within the first 3 months for various issues. Its been perfect since and served us well until we sold it last year !

I did own a 65 GTO from 65 to 68. I went away in the army and I think my mother thought I wasn't coming home so she sold it. I wasn't a happy camper but was happy to be alive. LOL

My last BMW 535 never went more than 6 weeks without something relatively major.

Overall I've been pretty lucky with all my Benz cars. What is concerning is the level of fails on these new 167's. Some of the type of problems are shocking. Would like to know the number of buybacks vs other Benz models.

Well, my BMW was the most exciting car I owned. It was exciting to drive and left me full of excited anticipation about the next time it would need major repairs. The most boring car i owned was a Lexus. Never that rush of anticipation about breakdowns. And so boring to drive.

I still feel that way about my CLS, honestly it's been a great car! And I still get excited even to this day many years later!

Just was told the 48 Volt battery is expected at the dealer the first week of January. I enjoyed the car for 3 weeks. They blamed the delay on Covid.

Should never have happened. Ask for compensation, lease payments or future service. Covid has nothing to do with this, it's a brand new vehicle.

@nsoltz You have a way with words! My fondest memory of our M550i was giving the keys for it to the MB dealership and them handing me the keys to the E car.

My fondest memory of the GLE was handing the keys back to the dealer after MB Financial agreed that it was a lemon.

We got a brand new '67 GTO. My Dad sold it when I was on a ship out in the Pacific. I told my brother's I would never forgive them. I met my wife-to-be the day I picked up that GTO. She bought me the replacement for our 25th wedding anniversary which was 25 years ago. Oh, Mercedes? CPO is the way to go. Have 2. Let others break them in or just break them.
