Do you drive much or does it sit a lot, running the batteries down?
I should have added that for obvious reasons I've been monitoring all the 48 volt battery threads and I don't think I've seen any posts about a failed battery that late in the game. I think I may have seen one where the car was in the 8,000 mile range and I was pretty stunned by that. So maybe you're okay. I hope.

Good luck. On that note though (and it sounds crazy to me too) but my salesman and the sales manager suggested I be careful about using MercedesMe because it draws a lot of power from the batteries. So I stopped using remote start, lock and unlock, and now only consult it on occasion to check vehicle status.

That's probably a good plan. I think it would take a day to charge that "system," though.

Thanks for the tip, I'll do the same and only use it to check the status.

It gets driven almost every day 10-15 miles minimum.
Well that sucks. That amount of driving should keep it topped up.
If you have the "new part number battery," I would have expected things to settle in. Maybe the German built cars have another point of failure?

Good luck with this battery. If it goes, maybe the Technicians should look somewhere else than the "usual places."

Thanks. I knew about the new battery number when they were getting me battery #2 but they gave me another "old" battery in spite of it because "that's what MB sent them". Until recently, I thought everyone else was getting the new battery and I was the odd man out. However, as recently as the past few weeks, another E450 wagon owner told me they just replaced his battery with the old battery number as well. Still, there's no clarification from MBUSA. It seems there is more information about the 48 volt battery issue on this site than there is from MBUSA or, for that matter, the dealers.

By way of update, after 4 1/2 months on a trickle charger the battery level shows Charged and it drives just fine.

Hello All,

I am a new member to the forum and got worried after reading all these 48v issues. I have purchased with a build date of 15th Oct 2021. So yet to receive my car and was wondering if recent builds have same issue?

Regards

I ordered my 450 in April '21, picked up July '21, and have had no issues thus far in almost 4k miles.

I have 5K miles on a March build without any issues. Batteries are not forever they die sooner or later and so will you. Don't let the worry ruin the days you are alive or the enjoyment of your car while it works.

I had the “new part number” battery installed before I took possession and the car has been working a performing great since May 3/21. Car was built mid January. I do put a CTEK charger on the battery from time to time over night just to keep it topped up. Doesn’t hurt.

The charge looks after both batteries. This is why it takes some time to fully charge.

I was told some months ago from my Mercedes dealer they were NOT shipping the old batteries anymore?

I know some people on this site have received the "old part number" as recently as a month or so ago. I had the old part number installed in mid-June and so far so good with 3,000 miles on this latest battery but I'm still apprehensive.

2021 AMG GLE63S 2700kms (1700 miles). Wouldn't start with error "Stop Vehicle See Operator's Manual". Operator's manual indicates "12V Battery Malfunctioning". ME app indicates "Battery Partially Charged". Battery fully charged, still wouldn't start. Had it towed to the dealership and was diagnosed as 48V battery problem. One or two weeks to get the battery to Canada. No wonder it gets the #1 Least Reliable Car for 2022 "award" in the latest Consumer Reports.

Unfortunately, experiences like yours don't influence consumer reports in their rankings very much.

Can you tell us when your car was manufactured?

And keep us informed of the outcome. Thanks and good luck.

I'll have to check this once I get the car back. I was going to check before it got towed, but I totally forgot.

I couldn't open the Consumer Reports link. Does it cite the 48 volt battery in its reasons for the rating? If that's the basis, then it's certainly not just the GLE, as that runs across several model lines.

but then I think they didn't even mention powertrain issues, they just based it on infotainment issues.

That seems crazy. MBUX has been getting great reviews. Sorry about your battery though. I'm on my third.

Just had this happen to my 2021 GLE53 - less than 6 months old under 5000 miles. The car wouldn't start and gave a 12v battery malfunction error. Had to flatbed the car to the dealer. It was a pain to get it out of the garage. Will provide an update as it comes.

Sorry to hear this. You might want to check out a few other threads on the same problem: 48-volt battery problem; 48v battery malfunction; and 48 volt battery problem? Check in here. Among other things, there is mention of a new 48 volt battery part number.
