I had a florescent corkscrew type bulb (CFL) in the opener that limited my range. Are you sure you have a standard bulb in it?

It's a bummer when you have to practically be right next to the door for it to work, right? One thing you could check is the batteries in your remote. Sometimes, they just need a swap to get things back on track. Also, make sure there aren't any obstructions blocking the signal between your remote and the opener. If those don't do the trick, it might be worth giving a local pro a shout. I've heard good things about Portland garage door repair services—they might have some insights or solutions you haven't thought of yet.

I called the Chamberlain manufacturer's help desk and they were very helpful in troubleshooting and even sent out a free adapter. (They also build LiftMaster.)
