Facelift with extra cameras
A user on the Mercedes Reddit spotted this camouflaged GLE facelift. What's interesting is the extra cameras on the sides. Anyone have a guess as to what they might be for?

Semi-autonomous driving?
Always look to S-Class for next gen gadgetry - what does 223 have coming in this regard?

The current cameras under the mirrors only look down for parking purposes. These are obviously positioned to get more vision on the other lanes. Very likely object detection/more input for the advanced driving aids.

they look like for autonomous driving or blind spot feature of the A pillar. I'll go with lane change autonomous driving feature. I for one would never use that feature. I like driving too much. LOL

Hopefully they do not change the interior much. I truly do love the GLE Interior design.

What I don't understand is why have these extra cameras when the S-class (with full autonomous driving) and E-class (with automatic lane change) doesn't have them.

I'll bet they're getting ready to change to the one central screen design as the other MB's, including the electric vehicles. I hate the new dashes - if I wanted shiny, black plastic everywhere, I'd bought a Cadillac!

I too like the traditional side by side screens but I can't say I mind the new MB screens at all, I do appreciate some wood trim though so if the screen replaces the wood, I am not too happy. Thankfully in the example of the W214, you get to choose screen or wood. Hopefully that is the case in the GLE.

MB is building the electric and gasoline vehicles on the same line so I guess that means they have to share the same interiors, but the weight saving interior designs just don't have the traditional MB feel. I've ordered a 2025 GLS 450 to replace the 2020 GLE 350 just so I don't have to deal with that dashboard and interior for a few years.

My 90 year old father got the EQE 350+ a year ago, so I have driven it quite often and the interior just feels cheap and plasticy, versus my '24 GLE 53, '23 E450 Cabriolet and my '20 GLE 350. Even with the wood versus the door to door screen, the interior feels inferior to previous designs. Also, the placement of the screen requires you to look away from the road more often, so you better get an HUD.
