The best or nothing

Well, I guess my problems started. My family and I exited the interstate tonight (We had only been driving about 7 miles so far) and pulled up to the red light when the car started shaking violently. The check engine light then came on and the shaking increased when I pressed the gas and tried to drive off. I was about 3 miles from my house so I continued home. Now I’m currently waiting on the MB tow company.
I can already hear it now in the morning from the service department, “we can’t find anything wrong.”
I’m trying to stay positive but with only 293 miles and only 5 days owning, it’s hard.

If it continues then talk to a lemon law attorney and see if they can get MB to buy the car back. It should not be doing that.

I feel like MB has not been living up to the “best or nothing” slogan for some time now (especially since my GLE has been delayed about 2 months due to a damn zip tie). Even my prior E class was falling apart after 3-4 years.

PS. While I sit here and wait, now going on 1.5 hrs waiting on the tow truck, I feel as though I might need to apologize to the first person that answered my phone call when I called MB with the problem.

This problem was documented here at least 2 months ago with members waiting on new replacement battery distribution. Was your car built and delivered after this became a known problem? Did MB deliver this "hoping" it would be ok but know there was an issue, OR was yours built before it was widely known. Mine is supposed to be built in 2 days (1-28) and I am VERY concerned.

I didn’t know about that. I have not read the “problems page” since I really did want to go into buying the 580 with an open mind. I only read about the leather “wrinkles” problems because it was discussed in another thread. Can you enlighten me a little more with this “documented” problem since I really don’t want to read what else I might be looking for.
I believe mine was built around the first of Jan. and got delivered to the dealership on the 13.

I am reffering to the 48 volt battery problem that some members state similar rough engine and then total shutdown. Most cases said it was within the first couple of hundred miles of ownership. I just checked and the thread is about a month old and already has about 5 pages. This is very concerning!

There she goes. It only took the MB tow truck 2:23 to get to me. Glad I wasn’t on the side of the road.
Thanks for the responses. I’ll see what service says tomorrow.

I didn't want to "like" your post, because there is nothing to like about that beautiful vehicle on a flatbed. Hope it gets resolved quickly - very frustrating.

When MB Canada PR personal called me, I asked about all the problems are acceptable to MB stander. She said yes, MB still the best out there. Basically MB don’t really care about it now, everyone is using the COVID issue to hide behind it. She told me buy extend warranty or trade in the car straight up. Not even trying.

This doesn't sound like a battery issue to me...the car kept running. Sounds like a timing issue, and/or it was not running on all cylinders. Question is what caused it? My guess is something is wrong with the electronic ignition...could be as simple as a loose connector/wire -- it got hot, expanded, and an open circuit. A bummer for sure on a brand new car...but once fixed you may never experience this again. Try to stay positive if you can, and see what they find out...being negative never helps. This very well could be an easy fix once diagnosed vice something major. If the check engine light came on, then the vehicle should have recorded a code. If they tell you nothing is wrong, then I'd express concern...it would be reasonable to expect this to happen again. Please let us know what you find out.

Another GLE with an issue. MB really needs to get this right. A shuttering car is as serious issue, can hinder acceleration when you need it and cause serious risk.

I think these issues are really rare. Sorry that you had the misfortune of being the one who had to deal with it.

Update. Just talked to service and it went pretty well. When I explained the problem to the advisor he kind of hinted that he had heard of the problem since he stated, “yeah, it’s probably going to take awhile.” He also stated that he would call the tow company since it took so long to get to me, didn’t lock the car when they left it (app notified me), dropped it in the wrong place, and they cannot find the key.
My wife who sent an email to the GM, SM, and SA last night hasn’t got any response yet though.
On a good note, when we started the car to load it onto the wrecker, there was no CEL or violent shaking. It seemed to be ok. Now I just hope the car stored the code and they actually fix or correct something.
The car was shaking so bad last night that you could hear it in my voice when I was talking to MB on the phone in the car. My wife has it on video. You can also hear my young daughter in the back saying, “daddy I’m scared, are we going to make it?” Just a funny part to the problem now but not good that it is on video of me talking to the first MB rep.

Really sorry to read about your troubled car. I really hope they make it right for you and give you a loaner free of any charge for such a pain in the ***! Just wondering: why did you call the MB towing? Do you have AAA? I used MB towing ONCE back in 2012 and it took HOURS for them to get to me and have never even considered them again and plus AAA is always the best service and time tables too. I've had AAA plus for 25 years and it always comes through

Good luck and I hope you find satisfaction!

AAA is the gig, 100 miles free and they show up fast.

@hyperion667 I might have explained that wrong. I used the tele-aid/Mercedes connect/Mercedes now/Mercedes me button (who knows what they call it now or tomorrow) and somewhat politely explained to them my problem. They then quickly transferred me to roadside and they ordered the tow company.

Why in the pic on the flatbed does it look like the suspension is in Offroad mode?

I prefer my insurance company, which includes towing for $15.16 per year. They canvass every qualified wrecker in the vicinity and don't let go until they have an ETA, and call me regularly while I wait. Much better and much cheaper than AAA.
It's good to have M-B as a backup, though.

I raised it all the way up so there was no way for it to scrub when he loaded it.

I agree. Good idea. I think I have it with my Pure insurance but I will recheck.

@BACnMercedes Sorry to hear. I hope it is resolved quickly and to your satisfaction. A way to get MB’s attention is to post the video with your shaking voice and your scared daughter on social media ie Facebook and Twitter. It’s how things are now, unfortunately.

Unless you prefer to proceed in an Adversarial Role with the only people who can assist, I think that's a bad idea.
I'd prefer to get their attention by assisting the Service Department in troubleshooting.
Whichever path you chose, good luck.

I hope it's an easy fix, but most of all I hope they actually find a Smoking Gun.

I concur. Give them a chance to fix it, people are more inclined to help you out if you treat them with respect. The nuclear option usually isn't helpful....it just ticks off the people who are trying to help you.
