He also mentioned, at least on the Burmester system that they made a lot of changes for 2021. He believed that the cable from the head unit to the amp in the trunk went from fiber optic to a coax cable. So far there is no "Most" adapter for it, but Nav-TV and MoBridge both state they are working on one and it should be out in weeks. The rep for Match also reps for Helix DSPs and amplifiers and stated that if you tap off the factory amplifier (to add on an aftermarket amp) that the Mercedes might not send a signal (mute) as it expects to see the factory speakers. He said that an installer that come across that issue was able to make it work by using some resistors and "loading" the amp.
I found a high end installer that also was concerned about those issues and when I said I contacted the rep, he even know his name before I mentioned his emails. My installer also says that there are some "speed dependent" issues that change the signal accordingly by how fast you are driving. I didn't understand it all, but it was also brought up by the MoBridge rep that also (soon to) makes an adapter.
Match and Helix are from the same German company, and the company that reps them in the USA also reps Blam speakers. I have an appointment on March 15 for my local shop to install (replace) all of the factory speakers with Blam, add a 12 channel Helix amplifer/DSP, and a Cerwin Vega subwoofer that fits (bolts) in the well of the spare tire. Not many shops were interested in working on this car as it might pose some challenges, but my installer is confident he can deal with what we know so far. I should know in about 2 weeks.
....but the factory system is too weak not to try.

The Blam speakers in the front doors and bass speakers under the dash did sound MUCH better, and I did not have the new amp yet, so replacing all of the speakers with Blam and a good amp/DSP on my next system should sound great. I realize now that I will need a proper subwoofer and dedicated amp. I really didn't want a box in the back of the GLE (or the S-Class), but if you want the sound, you can't take shortcuts.
My new car is scheduled to be built 3rd decade of July. I look forward to restarting the project. I learned a lot from a few wrong choices and hope the new car sounds great when upgraded.

L&R Subs $700.00 Blam (pair) MB 200 W
Front Doors $700.00 Blam S (pair) 100N24+
Rear Doors $700.00 Blam S (pair) 100N24+
Rear Surround $159.99 (pair) MATCH UP S4MB-SUR
I will have my installer help choose a sub (and box) when the new car comes in, but I will probably go with this amp,
Sub Woofer Amp $699.99 Audison AP F1D (although they also make one with similar specs for $300 less).
In my case I will be using an amp/DSP (Helix V Twelve) for the mid and high speakers too that will have a "pass through" to feed the sub amp, but if you only want to add a sub amp you will need one that accepts high (speaker) level inputs or use a high/low adapter. Many new amps accept both high and low level inputs, but it is something to watch for when shopping.

But I need to know which Burmester system we are talking about. Is it the plain Burmester, or the 3D version?
In addition, I'd like to find out if the 3D Burmester uses active speakers, each with its own amp, or if they are passive - amp in the head unit powering the speakers.
A Dynaudio system in a previous car used active speakers, and the control of the 3D system ovver its speakers reminds me of the Dynaudio.

Also would like to see some solutions for custom subwoofer install that does not require a “box” taking up space but instead is “hidden”.
