Thumbs up GLE wind noise

My GLE is about 10 days old. Noticed wind noise on driver side. Read numerous messages spanning years regarding this same issue. It would not have stopped me from purchasing this beautiful vehicle however it would have alerted me to possible declines in fit and finish, quality control and overall customer satisfaction. I am also reading about issues with seating materials. I read from several individuals with this same noise issue that a factory fix is on it’s way. I would much rather wait for that than have a make shift repair from the dealer. Should I go on record with my dealership that I am experiencing this whistling sound however I am willing to wait for their fix? From what I have learned, it seems like the whistling sound is coming from the driver side mirror. Any new information regarding this noise issue would be greatly appreciated. BTW , just checked, my GLE was built in February 2021, so obviously they are still building them with the same problem. Thanks

Yes, call your dealer and schedule to have a service tech ride with you so they can hear the noise. There is a service bulletin out that helps with the whistling noise that is experienced by some. I don’t have any wind issues on mine. Every noise is different. Yours might be caused by the side mirror, or it could be a window seal that isn’t sealing, or a roof rack cross bar....etc.

Having same issue with mine. Driver side wind noise starts when going over 40mph
Built 2/18 picked up 3/13.
Wasn’t expecting to go see dealer again so soon. Will leave message with SA and see what he says.

There is a huge thread about this issue, I've listed it below. I had the same issue and someone in the thread suggested these carbon fibre covers; I ordered them and the noise is totally gone. There are many fixes suggested in the thread but this one does work for sure.

Just got off the phone with MB customer service. Spoke to them about the whistling noise from driver’s side mirror. The customer rep told me that she has never heard about it and that there is no service bulletin. She wasn’t going to document my call, however I did ask her to do so. Suggested I return to my dealership and see what they can do to resolve this issue. If anyone has heard of a service bulletin please let me know the name and number of it. Thanks

Can you provide a link to the carbon fiber covers that you ordered?

I hear a wind, not whistling, noise. It sounds like a rush or whooshing sound on the driver side. Haven't mentioned it to the dealer yet and eventually will do so.

Just signed up here because I have the same whistling noise in my 2021 GLE 450. After a road trip or two, we noticed the whistling but during covid, we did not drive much so just getting around to have this checked out. I thought this must be a simple fix since it is so obvious a flaw in an otherwise very quiet SUV. I was stunned to have the service department tell me " yes we are hearing a lot of complaints but we don't know how to fix it unless we redesign the car".Upon inspection, they said we don't "hear anything unusual for this make of car". Meaning what that this make of car has wind noise ? I am going to take it to another Mercedes dealer and see what they say. Very interested to see someone thought there was a service bulletin for this issue? Any other help out there? I should say it doesn't do it 100 % of the time, but more than half the time when driving at speeds of around 70 MPH. drives me crazy

See post 5 above…there is a lot more information in the original thread and as I recall the Service Bulletin info. You might need to educate the selling Dealer if #2 won’t help.

There is a service bulletin and parts available for the fix. It's easier to tell you they don't know what to do. Check this forum. I posted the service bulletin a while back, but cant find it now.

hello everyone, I have a MB gle 2017, I have been researching the noise of the wind in the cabin and the noise of the side wind for a long time. a lot of noise comes from the side mirror and the upper window seal of the door/front, rear/then I made a couple of adjustments. After removing the side mirror, even with the foam gasket, I lined the inside/2 metal parts/ around the perimeter with tape https://a.aliexpress.com/_ExdpHJi with dimensions 3mm x20mm x10m. next, it is necessary to pull off the upper outer seal of the door, which goes around the plastic of the mirror above the side window. I started from the front, the rubber that goes to the inside of the door is raised and the entire seal is slowly pulled away from the car and gradually pulled away. when you get above the window, it must be pulled down and it is necessary to remove the inner plastic around the upper part of the window, flip out the rubber part of the upper seal and then proceed to pull the upper seal from the outside. be careful, don't put it all the way down. useless. inside, I glued the tape about 1.5 cm wide along the entire length, which I mentioned above. you have to have a bit of fun with it, but the result is more than satisfactory, a decrease in external noise and side wind. the cabin is quiet.
