Mercteil AMG exhaust tips

Hi,

I have a GLE 450 with AMG line package coming in a few days. Funny thing is that even the car has not arrived yet, I'm already looking for some mods.

Does anyone have any experience with this website and this part ? Would it fit to a GLE450 ?

https://mercteil.com/product/retrofi...haust-tips-set

Thanks in advance

The website indicates GLE Class W167 (sic), so they should, but the ones in the photos appear to have a different shape than the GLE 450 exhaust opening. Best to contact the vendor.

My guess is that those are from the GLE63 and will need a few more trim pieces to work on a 450. I recently added the GLE53 rear diffuser and it was a lot more than just the tips....

Here is the complete conversion kit:

I think the GLE 450 have fake exhaust tips on the cars, so those tips would probably not work as a plug and play type of mod.

With AMG Exterior the 450s exhaust outlets are active.

The 450 has real exhaust tips as long as you get the AMG exterior package, at least in the US (some Canadian members indicated this is not the case for them).

Yes, in Canada they are fake. Not sure what the rationale is for that. To some degree, even the GLE53 is fake in that the tips aren't actually connected to the exhaust, the exhaust pipe stops behind the tips.

My Canadian ‘21 63S has fakes. Kinda bugs me actually.

Not connecting the exhaust to the outlet doesn’t make them fake, IMO. There is a good reason as well. Connecting them to an outlet that is fixed increases the amount of damage from harmonic vibrations. It’s a trade off in looks having the tips integrated vs floating under the bumper. The real reason Mercedes does this might really be cost and efficiency. I have a friend in the business and he hates fixed exhausts but says they are good for business.

I've heard a variety of explanations from keeping the tips and rear bumper clean to liability if someone burns themselves on a hot exhaust tip.... Who really knows the real reason, cost is likely a big factor. One good thing is it allowed me to do my diffuser conversion fairly inexpensively. If I had to replace the exhaust system along with the diffuser that would have certainly been cost prohibitive!

Well, my car is coming in 2 days time ...I'll take some pics on the rear exhaust of the AMG line.

I'm in indonesia, so I dont know whether its real or fake (vs Canada or USA specs)...
I'm hoping I dont have to replace the whole lower bumper trim and doable with just tips

These are GLE 63 exhaust tips and you have to replace the whole bumper in order to fit them.

I don't think it matters whether the exhaust is functional or not. The lower diffuser is completely different so you will have to replace that and all the associated trim pieces in order to accomodate those tips.

Looking at these diffusers closely, I wouldn't be surprised if the GLE53 and GLE63 use the same diffuser assembly with only the tips and the plastic insert being different. Here are a couple comparison pics ...... Maybe next year I'll swap out my 53 tips for the 63 to freshen things up a little

Apa kabar?!

I believe Indonesia gets the European market, completely different than US/Canada. Is it true that there's only GLE450 there? No GLE350 at all?

Hi Djer, apa kabar...

Finally my car arrived ...and sad to say, I got some fake tips, along with a downward pointing exhaust.
I guess its rather pointless to add just a tips, if the exhaust is pointing downwards.

Yeah, only GLE 450 here.

The cars are CKD - complete knock down.
So they actually assemble the cars in Indonesia itself to save on taxes.

There are 3 models here, which all use the same engine and transmission :
S450 , GLS 450, GLE 450.

Nice. Although your rear wiper alignment would drive me nuts.

I did notice recently when I saw a GLE in traffic that the fake exhaust is fairly believable. I’m still not happy about it, but at least it’s better than Audi/VW.

I just ran out to see the car ... apparently the rear wiper alignment is just that.
It wouldnt go down any further !

I dont want to use more force to get it level ...afraid it'll break off .

I would think it is on a splined shaft if like others, so could probably be removed and realigned.

I am sorry that I commented. How rude of me! I had a Jeep Cherokee once with a tilted wiper and all it took was to pull the arm and rotate it down - it was a splined shaft.

Man, the guys in Tangerang isn't any better than the ones in Vance Alabama lol <- commenting on the rear wiper alignment. You could try opening the cover on the base of the wiper arm and adjust them using a socket. Actually, just bring it back to the dealer. Not worth tinkering on a car worth US$120k

What's your thoughts on going from the ML250 CDI to the GLE 450?

Also do you know if you have the MultiBeam LED? If so, can you take a picture of the front headlight, sort of from an angle? Reason: need to check cornering lights function, see here for other thread. We here in the US don't have the full MultiBeam LED capability.

Terima kasih, maaf merepotkan

Here in the US we have muffler shops that could easily pull the muffler and modify the outlet pipes to align with the bumper openings. May well be more trouble than it's worth, though.

I considered that but when I had a proper look underneath, there is a metal barrier that physically separates the exhaust from the diffuser/tips. There must be a hole cut in that area on the vehicles that have the exhaust that ports through to the rear. I just left them pointing down, the improved look was worth the effort for me.

Hi Djer,
Actually, its US$133k . quite expensive considering the same model would be around $70k in the USA.

Limited Thoughts on the ML 250 to the GLE 450. Only spent 50km on the GLE450 so far.
The GLE is definitely much smoother. It almost feels like an S-class smoothness.
The air-sus give a much better ride on the rough roads in Jakarta. Even 20" AMG wheels vs the 18": on the ML250, the ride is good.
There is no more of the rough / vibrations of the diesel coming into the cabin.
Even though I have to say the ML250 is very smooth compared to other diesels.

The ML250 is more fuel efficient, especially in highway traffic. I drive out to visit my plant almost 100km away, and I still want to keep my ML250 (at least for 1-2 more years) because its simply that much more fuel efficient.
I miss the rough grunt of the diesel when I want to overtake. Maybe after I stop babying the break-in period of GLE , I'll try out the power of EQ boost.

Multibeam, yes according to the brochure, the car is equipped.
I drove it briefly last night and saw that it lights up the corners when I take the corners.
Let me what kind of pictures you want, and I'll try to get them.
