Noisy HVAC fan
So, I will try to summarize the past two months breifly.
Since getting my GLE last April, I've noticed a drone/hum/vibration in the dash HVAC system when the unit is extremely cold. It was annoying more than anything. To me, it sounded like a fan motor was unbalanced.
When I had the car in in January, they looked at it. Based on a TSB, the service manager determined it was the vanes in the air balancer that moved air between the feet, dash, and vent openings. I am not sure, but okay. To me, those vanes should move only when an adjustment is occurring, while this is constant. So they ordered a part.
In the beginning of March, I had it in for it's A service, and asked about the part. It was still backordered. I again told them I thought it was a fan and not the vanes. But they insisted. After talking to the service manager, he ordered the blower motor, which came in within days. So, in for the third trip. Except now the managers disagree over whether it is the right part or wrong part, and insist on waiting on the right part. Which is still backordered.
So, I reach out to MB USA who, magically tells me within a day that the part is now at the dealership.
So, last Tuesday, it went it to have the mixer box/vanes replaced.
Here is the current inside of the vehicle. I am trusting they get it all back together noise-free and problem free.

If it's any reassurance, I had that TSB work performed not long ago (didn't have a humming problem but the flaps were misbehaving in some situations). The technician told me afterwards that he had to take out the whole dashboard and implied I wouldn't believe what it looked like. I didn't get a picture like you did, but I would never have known the work was so involved - looks brand new and like nothing happened

I had a similar issue with my 2020 GLE350de
The fan snored loudly to re-inflate the car when the temperature was to warm outside. Problem easy to reproduce in after-sales service.
In fact, it was an adhesive remaining from the initial manufacture. Small disassembly of the glove box and the problem has been solved.
My wife has been complaining about odd noises in our HVAC (2021 GLE580) which I have a difficult time hearing (despite VERY expensive hearing aids, sigh). Going in for my A service next week, will chat with the service folks about it and see what they think. Based on a TSB for it, there must be something there.... (famous last words)
That’s shocking! For a Mercedes’, and such an expensive Mercedes too. As I wrote in a whitepaper recently “what’s worse than a supply chain shortage? fake or defective parts making it into production”.
Makin' Sausage. You don't want to see how it's done.
I’m way too ****-retentive. There is no way I can be made to believe that this will be perfectly reassembled and silent. I’d already be reading them the riot act about their lack of interior protection, which in turn-would further dampen the possibility of a happy outcome. Something like this would make my crazy self get rid of the vehicle… (At least I’m aware that I’m over-the-top)

I'm with you. If I saw this on my vehicle I'd tell them not to bother. I'd get rid of it.
