What type of discounts are you getting on custom orders?

Hello everyone - I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a custom order 2021 GLE53. I've seen comments that some dealerships are not discounting whatsoever on custom orders, while others are discounting 5-7%. The dealership I'm currently talking to doesn't seem to have a huge desire to discount/negotiate. Before I start shopping elsewhere, I was hoping to get some feedback from recent buyers on how successful they were with negotiating discounts on custom orders.

Please let me know - and thanks in advance!

Jeremy

There don’t seem to be many big discounts on custom orders at this time. Maybe someone from your market area will have specifics. The discount can be meaningless unless one knows the full terms anyway. If you have a trade the discount on new can be more than made up on the trade. Used cars are at a premium I get 3-4 unsolicited offers monthly, some are on a vehicle I haven’t owned for 2 years. If you have a trade you might get way over book in some markets.
Dealer relationship (past history) might get you a better deal. Finding a Dealer with a current allocation might be something else to consider. The best way to test current pricing is to do as you suggested and get competitive bids, IMO. Good luck...the 53 is a very nice ride.

I am getting my 53AMG for dealer invoice which is about 6% off on my custom order. Only caveat is that I ordered in June of 2020 and it just got built and I have the VIN. Second car with this dealer.

Initially, my local dealer wasn't going to give anything on a 450. I called another dealer a couple hours away and he said he would do 2%. Presented that offer to my local dealer and they matched it. Had to wait a few days for their next allocation but they did get one for a 450 with an early August production.

Would you guys recommend shopping nationwide or just whichever dealer you can drive to?

My strongest influence is the Service Department. If I buy where it's serviced, I have the Sales Rep, Sales Manager and F&I person all on my side, as well as the Service Manager.

I would suggest shopping within a few hours of your location or further depending on how many are around your location. I tried to get mine from the place that I plan on servicing it at, which is the closest dealership to me, but they were terrible when it came to price and I ended up ordering and leasing it from a dealership about 20 minutes or so away from my closest dealership.

My GLE53 custom order is now locked and loaded. Was able to negotiate a 5% discount at my preferred dealer, which I felt pretty good about so went with it.

I had 3% off negotiated on a replacement 580 coming in in June plus $1000 MB credit for masters tickets they gave me but I never used. But after talking with the buy back company, Stericycle, today and what they are charging for a usage fee, that purchase is probably not going to happen.
Great car but if there is any serious problems, Mercedes turns it over to a third party buy back company and leaves you hanging.
Good luck.

What is Mercedes buying back? A "faulty" (lemon) GLE580? You're replacing a 2020 with a 2021? If you had a lemon, they should have given you a lot more than 3% off the replacement. I pray your situation is the exception to the rule. I've always had a stellar experience with MB in the past.

A buy back is a lemon law. I have a ‘21 GLE 580 that is a piece of crap. I do think mine is an exception and why at one point I wanted a new one. I even have my name on one on order but I don’t think I’m going to make it until then. I’ve owned several MB’s in the past and most have been trouble free except for a few minor things: spot on trim, squeaky brakes, crack on door piece, but this one has been a nightmare. What i am saying is that, if there is a serious problem, it will take weeks to resolve, MB customer service will not do much other than offer you some type of monetary assistance but only after the car is “fixed”, and if it goes far enough if gets turned over to a third party buy back company (Stericycle or Sedgwick) that Mercedes will relay what they will do through them that takes even longer and there will be NO help in purchasing something else.

Oh boy...I think I'd like to un-read your thread. No words for your situation, but awful! Will say again...pray you were the exception! So many positive reviews of their GLEs on this board...

I was able to get $2500 off our 2022 GLE 350 AMG Sport. We ordered it In February and it arrived in May. The Dealer only gave us this much off because we have purchased 3 new cars from them in the last 6 years. Otherwise there were no GLE
s available at all let alone any we wanted. Im sure things will get better soon and move faster.

Don't count on things getting better. The supply chain is still a mess and with a global recession on the radar, there's no resolution in sight.
