Parking Package P47

My 2021 GLE450 has the P47 Parking Package. When I picked it up, the dealer spent about 30 minutes going over features, but not the parking package and I don't see it discussed here on the forum.

Does anyone here use this feature? If so for drive-in spaces, parking lots, parallel parking? Does this car actually park or just have camera assist?

I just did a keyword search of the order guide but it only listed the option, not what it does.

It will really self-park. Parallel, pull-in, back-in. But unless you are a terrible parker, it will be easier to park yourself. It takes a bit of time, but it will fit in spaces I would not have tried, and I've driven some VERY large vehicles in the past.

I guess I will have to take it to the grocery store parking lot and try it where spaces are marked but no cars are around. Like you said that most of the time it's probably easier to park yourself though. Sometimes parallel parking can be tricky especially when people are watching or other cars are waiting. I wonder if it could do better then me? With the lack of discussion I am thinking not many people use it much.

I think it actually has to see two cars to work. We have it but have never used it. The manual for this vehicle leaves much to be desired, but information starts on page 235. You're probably better off finding a video online that demonstrates.

I use it to parallel park all the time. However, there has to be a vehicle on either side of the parking space (or a wall) for the sensors to recognize an open spot. Apparently it uses the sensors in the bumpers vice the cameras.

I've actually found that it will park with no cars present. It will "see" white lines, whether by camera or radar, I don't know.

I am going to try in a not too busy parking lot.

I would recommend you do an internet search for "YouTube Mercedes self parking". There will be a number of demonstration videos. Most, if not all of the videos, will say that you need two car ( not lines, not walls....) for the system to work. Above others have said differently and I have no reason to doubt their experience, that is something you can test for yourself. The videos will show you how to use the system to park and how to use they system to pull out of the parking space. I have not used the system much, but when I have, it did a good job. Also, I have used it for slightly angled parking and it worked fine for that too.

I find it quicker to use the 360 camera view and never take my eyes off of the MBUX display.

As mentioned, it needs a car or wall on either side to recognize and align for a space. Even if there are two open spaces next to each other, the car will not self park. I never use it because it's slow and the 360 degree camera makes it easy.
