Not positive but pretty sure you can turn off in menu and have to go back into menu to turn back on.

No way to turn it off as presently configured, unless the dealer has a way. I have tried every way I could find and it still reverts back to on after a restart. It is turned off while using Distronic if you are so equipped!

Interesting - I can turn it off in my 2016 GLE (same w/ 2012 model) - usually keep it off during the winter months, assumed it would be the same with this one

I don’t know of another car that you can’t turn it off so assume this is a glitch that will be fixed. Or at least I’m hoping that’s the case because I don’t care for it . It’s harsh at higher speeds and intervenes too soon, IMO. The manual indicates that it intervenes for unintended action but in my experience it always does unless a turn signal is on.

2019 Mercedes Sprinter
I've had my 2019 Sprinter about 4 months. When I first bought it I though lane keeping was useful. Now that I've lived with it for 8000 miles, I hate it! It frequently grabs the brakes on one side when I gently drift to the middle of a road to give a bicyclist room or leave more room for a police car. I would love to turn it off permanently.

My GLE MBUX was updated after many complaints so that it stays off now. Sprinter may be different but it’s worth asking your Dealer for the update.

The active lane assistant is a true pain in the back. I always disconnect it when I get out of the city.

MB ought to improve it or allow permanent disconnection. Looking at how this works on a premium car brand I think the autonomous driving still has a ways to go before it is reliable. In any case, I wouldn’t like my car to drive me.

Mine comes back on every time I start the engine. I believe it could be due to some sort of EU regulation (just like the start-stop, with which I am more than happy -GLE 450 here-).

I have it on my vehicle and I do not like it. It is the most aggressive of any vehicle I have ever owned that had this feature (this is my third). My background is in Engineering so I am throwing this out for any legal types that may be hanging on this board. If you have this "safety" feature on your vehicle and you intentionally turn it off, are you opening yourself up to any liability if you are involved in an accident that this feature could have helped to avoid or mitigate? (Maybe I am watching too much TV during all these COVID times!!)

Mine was like that (I think all early builds were) until they applied a software update. I doubt that it’s a regulation since it’s not standard equipment but an option you pay extra to get. In areas that get snow/ice I view it as dangerous because it could result in an accident.
My question is why the brake correction? I also have Distronic and that feature steers you back into the lane. Why didn’t Merc stick with the normal way of Lane Keep correction?

Didn’t know about that SW update. I will ask the dealer.

I'm pretty sure last time I turned mine off it stayed off. I'll confirm then re-post.

Lane Keeping Assist

One big reason I didn't order the DA2 package - I prefer to drive myself. There are a few what I consider useful features in that package, but most I would find an annoyance. I've got Blind Spot Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Assist, Parking Assist and Active Brake Assist without it.

I love all those options but also understand people who find them annoying. It took me a while to get used to on my first car with it. Now, as I get older, i need this co-pilot stuff..

If you cause an accident then you are already liable. The driver is responsible for anything that happens. This disclaimer is given with every safety feature. The presence or absence of any safety feature makes no difference.

Similarly if you rely on a feature and it fails you are still responsible. We are still a long ways away from self-driving cars and any new laws that might apply to them.

Makes sense to me. The key is to not get into an accident in the first place!!

That post of mine you quoted was over a year ago. As I posted just before you today, a software update changed it to stay off when turned off.

It would be really nice if there were user-selectable degrees of intervention. Personally, I find it to be dangerously violent on occasion.

According to the manual some countries get to choose between Standard and Sensitive. I guess North Americans get left out.

I too hate the lane keeping assist. I took the above info regarding the service/software bulletin to the dealer and he could find no info on the patch from Mercedes. They also tried multiple ways to turn it off, but it still resets with the key off/on. I also tried the Mercedes complaint line and got nowhere. Frustrating that some of us can turn it off permanently but others can't. BTW, this is a 2020 GLE 450.

That’s crazy that the Dealer can’t find the update...wonder how hard they tried. Since it’s available to one Dealer it’s available to all. My 2021 GLE 53 came from the factory with the ability to turn Lane Keep off or on permanently.
