Does anyone uses the umbrella holder on the 2 front doors? They are the slot right behind the door storage component. I tried a few different size of compact umbrellas but they all seems to be too small and can easily slide out.
Or am I mistaken and those are for something else entirely?

I don’t think you do. I believe they are just talking about the compartment in the door and I just drop mine in there. It fits nicely although it is a Mercedes umbrella that they sent me.

Do you mind measuring the diameter of the umbrella when it is in closed position? (and also the length while you at it? ) I think my umbrella (not from Mercedes) is too "skinny" so it doesn't hold itself in place.

Here is the location of the umbrella holder. I think I finally found one that will fit in the slot. You will definitely need one with larger diameters when folded.
Thank you for mentioning that slot as I never knew it was there! There is a horizontal slot in the door where I can slide in an compact umbrella. As mentioned, slot is big so umbrella will probably slide out.

I guess I'm doing it wrong. Ever since this thread alerted me to that space, I've tried every little umbrella I can find and my problem is that they are too big to slide in.
There's a rib in there that obstructs insertion.
That spot is actually for a safety vest. If you have the Mercedes guide app on your phone, search for safety vest and you’ll find some information on it. It’s meant to be easy access so you can put the vest on before even getting out of the car if you have car issues and have to stop on the side of the road.

Well, since the safety vest is not available (at least in the US market), its a unofficial umbrella holder now
But I do see some cars that use the same spot for umbrella holder (GM Volt I believe)?

This is the one I use. It will hold in place if you don't put the umbrella in the included "bag" as the bag itself "compress" it smaller. But as others have stated, you could fit 2 smaller (and shorter) compact umbrellas in there too and they should stay in place.
