Wish me luck!

My wife and I are leaving on a 1800 mile road trip in few days but the potential 48V battery fail issue is very worrisome. I keep imagining what I would have to do if the car doesn't start due to 48V failure hundreds miles away from home. I honestly don't worry about it when I'm in town as we have a second car and can afford to have our GLE in the dealership for couple of weeks if necessary. But that changes when we are so far away from home. Just thinking about it gives me bad chills.

I got my fingers crossed so wish me luck!

Just completed the 2000 mile road trip from California to Vancouver, Canada! My worry about the 48V failure turned out to be unwarranted and our GLE 450 performed flawlessly! Here's a photo of the Butchart Garden in Victoria, BC for you to enjoy!

Here are my observations:

1) I used the Distronics extensively during majority of the highway driving if the condition permitted. The car practically drives itself and takes a lot of stress and fatigue away from driving long distances.

2) I wish the Distronics didn't reduce the speed so aggressively on curves. I think this is part of the "Route Based Speed" thing? Next time I'll turn that off and see if that's better.

3) The seats are extremely comfortable and the cabin is very nice place to spend driving hours on the road.

4) I wish the center armrest had a little more padding. Being a passenger for 6-7 hours a day, my elbow certainly can use a little more cushion there.

5) Wish there was less wind noise at speeds above 70 MPH. I guess being a tall and squarish SUV makes is unavoidable. Not too bad but just wish it was a little quieter. I will definitely get the Acoustics Comfort package next time.

6) Even though it's a tall SUV, the GLE performs very well on mountain twisties. I had no issue with excessive body roll or anything like that. I felt like I could keep up with most other cars and the handling and power inspired confidence.

Just got back from a 3700 mile road trip in our new (delivered June 10) GLE. Delighted with our purchase.

Best of luck. I think you’ll be fine. Keep in mind that out of tens of thousands of vehicles, there’s a small portion that have issues, and the folks to come to boards are mostly those, while there the vast majority of owners are trouble free.

Wife and I are also going on an extended college trip next month to visit our kids in two different states, so we will be putting a couple of thousand miles on the odometer and I cannot wait. Loving my 53 AMG Coupe and I’ve had zero issues so far.

Cheers,

The power of negative thinking will keep you from enjoying the trip. Take another car.

Well, GLE is our only SUV and we purchased it for our road trips. So, I'll just have to get rid of this nagging feeling and enjoy our trip!

There is no fix for death and we are all heading that way. Don't let it ruin the days you are alive.

Very good advice…like I tell my family…if it’s something you can change then work it out. If you can’t change it then worry & complaining takes a toll on you. But a little planning doesn’t hurt, consider a little something extra to eat and some warm blankets in winter. Someday there might be better Roadside Assistance than waiting for a tow truck.
It seems that the 48 volt battery failure is cured for those of us with replacements in the last few months. Maybe the odds are getting more acceptable.

Cheers,

Just got back from our trip last night. 2109 miles in nine days and the GLE 53 Coupe performed flawlessly.
Zero issues, and an absolute joy for touring.

Cheers,
