GLE Voice Warning

So my son and I have kind of laughed (although I'm sure it's serious) when out of nowhere (twice) , we were driving on the highway and the MB blurted out "Warning, Danger ahead" That's it, nothing else. It was kind of a Danger Will Robinson moment if you're old enough to remember. Once it came before a traffic ahead warning. Anyone else get this warning. I looked in the manual and couldn't find it. Kind of freaky!

I've never heard an audio warning. Did you have a destination set in your navigation system?

Strange indeed. I’ve also yet to experience this.

I've had that warning a half dozen times, I'm pretty sure it is related to Car-to-X network, I suspect a car ahead of you has braked very hard and Car-to-X is relaying a warning, long before it might show up on navigation.

I had nav point in one instance, but always had map open on central screen

.
I heard it once and it took me by surprise. Though at the time I had Google Maps navigation via Android Auto and assumed the warning was from that...

It is most definitely an eye opening warning. I had to ask my son if I had heard it correctly, he was laughing since neither of us could figure out where the danger was (or what it was) Incoming asteroid perhaps??

I've had this happen several times. IMO, its a good thing to have. It's great to get to head's up at highway speeds, especially at times when you might otherwise be distracted. If you have Nav screen open, it will display an icon on/near where the incident is. I also keep nav open on center console, even when I don't have a destination set. This will also send a warning, if needed.

Is it the same thing that randomly warns you about potholes?

I primarily use Waze and Google maps and this danger announcement still comes up. I personally think it's great.

Any advance warning about impending doom so that I can live life to the fullest is great, a Thelma and Louise moment before leaping into the Grand Canyon. 😜

I have received this voice warning a few times, but never found any danger. I have also received "Traffic event ahead" warning a couple of times. Also, with no event noted.

Yes, I've had this happen to me as well. Or "Bump ahead"

I believe this is car to x feature, and an outside source reported an issue ahead of you. You don't even need to be on the navigation screen to hear it. I heard it a few times while using Waze on Android Auto and heard that warning so it appears to be running constantly on the background.

I’ve heard it numerous times on my 2021 GLE, however, I just got a 2024 GLE and have not heard it. It can be startling, it did not depend on the navigation system being on. Evidently, the system is seeing something and reading it incorrectly. If I was traveling on the highway and there was an incline in conjunction with an overpass it may interpret the overpass as an obstacle in my path. That is part of the reason I was concerned about getting the driver assistance package, it increases the likelihood of more errors, the system getting fooled. Undoubtedly, there are many advantages to that package as well.
