Just ordered the RJ Automotive Coding package

I'm taking the plunge and orderd the RJ Automotive Distronic Pro upgrade (adaptive cruise control), AMG Mbux screens, Sport+ and other options for my GLE 450. Raj seems very organized and responds quickly to questions. Cross your fingers for me on next report!!!

I placed an order as well. I would have preferred to have something to give me more control to do it myself but considering the costs of buying the necessary equipment and learning curve, this seemed to be a reasonable approach to get most of the things done I wanted.

Too bad you're in Indiana or we could have had a "take apart your steering wheel party" I might chicken out and have a shop do it, not sure yet. I'm just worried about breaking a part. What options are you doing?

What does the "Sport+" do?

Can't wait to hear on your report - BTW, may I ask if it was very expensive? Thanks.

expensive is relative term ;-). Did I need to do it haha no but I think it’s overall reasonable. Pretty straight forward on their website about costs and Raj responds quickly. I wouldn’t have been able to get adaptive cruise any other way I guess too. I’m ending up around $900 for the stuff I wanted. I’ll let everyone know how it goes once done.

I believe it's a more aggressive version of sport mode on engine throttle and shifting points. I'm sure it chews up more gas too but we'll see.

This is exactly what it is. It also opens up the active exhaust if you have this feature.

Hi, When you say active exhaust, do you mean the flaps in the exhaust system? Is the 450 (with AMG package and sport exhaust) the same as the 43 exhaust system? I'm not going to opt for fully disabling the flap to open as a separate available option

Not sure about the 450, but I have seen folks post photos of theirs having the flaps but not button to control them. If you have them, I would inquire with your tuner and see if they can program this.

On my 53, I have a dedicated button for it on the dash, plus programed on one of the AMG control buttons on the steering wheel. I believe it's the same with the 43.

Thanks, unfortunately, we don’t get those with our AMG body 450’s and can’t add them. I have inquired if the flaps open option is permanently open or user can do through menu instead of buttons.

I already have Distronic but am going to do:

Sport +/Individual as default Mode when starting vehicle
Enable Sport +/Snow Mode for Non AMG vehicles
Seatbelt Warning Disable

Also going to ask if they can disable the 'don't forget your key reminder'. Hope that one comes through!

What is Sport+/Snow mode for non AMG vehicles versus Sport+?

I'm not sure! Did a quick search the other day but didn't find anything.

I guess we’ll be trading notes. Only thing I’m apprehensive about is taking apart steering wheel

Yes, but I'm not sure if it's just open always which I'm not sure I want.

Do you notice any sound difference comfort vs sport? It seems to me it is mostly rev holding that is heard over extra sound growl in sport.

I haven’t really noticed any difference, we’ll see if any different with Sport+ but why do we even have variable flaps if it doesn’t make a difference in sound.

I hope the program will open the flaps... it seems like they only open for efficiency if at all. When are you due to install the software?

Have a 450 on order with AMG option. It says something about functional exhaust something or other. Can you explain what this whole discussion is about flaps and opening and closing?

There is a motorized flap in the exhaust system which allows greater or more restricted flow depending on the mode you are driving in. The more open the flap, the louder/growlier (if that's a word) the exhaust sound can be. I'm not sure if it actually makes a difference in back pressure improving performance any.

Thanks for the explanation. Never heard of this type of thing. I thought it was some type of thing that the driver engaged separately and had no idea of the purpose either open or closed. Had company cars for 30 years. Didn't have all these options and confusion. Every 3 years, got a new car and those are the best to "not" own.

The AMG models allow you to control the flap as well, don't worry it's all automatic on the regular 350's and 450's with AMG package. I haven't really heard a difference yet.

Only if you have the U78 AMG Performance Exhaust system option, $1250.
