I went into the Mercedes service department earlier today to get them to look at my 2021 GLE450. The problem I was having is an inability to play back movies (MP4 file format). What I was told was my head unit was not capable of doing this. Apparently there are two version of this head unit and the one they put in my vehicle was the cheaper of the two, even though I had loaded up the SUV with Burmester sound upgrade Dashcam and Augmented Reality, among other options. I was under the impression all GLE's could play movies while parked. Can anyone confirm this?
I bought a part from Digi Dash UK which allowed me to watch TV and movies streamed using a mobile data signal from my phone using the apple car play port.
I added a few apps to it as it’s basically an android box and can use it perfect

If owners of 2020 or 2021 GLE's are able to view videos. please let me know. It is frustrating a 20k Honda can do this but not a 75K Mercedes.

Why don't you trade your GLE for three Hondas, then you'd have - nothing!

They are based in the UK - it plugs in the USB-C for apple car play. It's a basic android box so you can download diff apps for it inc IPTV ones.
The bonus is that it works while driving without any other parts

Absolutely correct - my 2021 GLE350 has option 549 and plays the videos perfectly.
I just looked on my original window sticker but it only shows 12.3 digital instrument cluster where can I find the 549 code (if i have it on my 2021 GLE 450)?
I found the dealer I was given when they got the car and do in fact have option 549 form my MBUX and will try the video. Now I'm curious as I have 4 factory codes 051, 085, 1B4, 9U5 and 184 which just say (factory code) next to them and one has a TBD.

Factory codes are just locations and other uninteresting production things. There's no details on what they mean exactly though.
TBD means MB did not enter a description for that particular code. It may be filled in at some point in the future if the PDF is regenerated.
How I test my car was just take a YouTube video and convert it to a 720p quality file and put it in a USB and load it while in park. It works for 720p but not on 1080p

i just plug it into the usb-c port on the car that I would usually plug my iPhone in to activate car play and it powers up.
any troubles you should message digidash on Instagram as the fella is really helpful.

Hmm, I did the same (plugged it into the same port for apple car play) and it didn’t power up. But tested it in other vehicles (Range Rover, gmc) and it powered up right away.
my phone works fine with CarPlay in the Mercedes’, so no idea what the issue could be.
yep, got the new 3.0 version. Hopefully it’s still compatible. I have the 2020 Mercedes’ gle 350, the year they gave GLE a full redesign.
I contacted them on the website but I guess IG can’t hurt.
