Sirius Trial Subscription

For those who have received their new GLE's recently, please be aware that Sirius just informed me that I entitled to only a 3 month free subscription. After spending about 40 minutes with their chat service, the only thing the Customer Service representative did was to send a refresh signal. I went back to Sirius on the phone and explained that MB offers 6 months. She could not help me since their office are closed and that was the subscription period that they have in their "records." Just check your subscription trial period. Sirius is at best from my experience, not a company that you could trust for their statements. I will keep the forum updated…..

I got my GLE 53 on December 15 and it has the XM radio free trial. Called SiriusXM yesterday to add my radio ID and was told my free trial will end on June 15, 2022 and my payments will start then.

With Sirius you often have to call in multiple times to get what you want/things right.

(Hutch300). Agree….I have had my share of conversations with Sirius over the year. Last year after canceling my subscription, they charged me $30.00 for which they could not tell me why. I back billed them.

They charge a lot and you have to call annually for a promo. It it a pour customer experience. Radio they think is worth more than Netflix...

Sirius XM not to be taken seriously

Rule # 1 Never, I repeat NEVER give Sirius radio your credit card number. You will be billed at the highest rack rate they have. When your renewal is due they will automatically renew your contact for the year, no promotions will be given to you. Customer service is inconsistent at best. Most likely you will be speaking with someone at an offshore call center, generally the Philippines, whose accent may or may not be understandable. The are very polite, robotically polite. Have them mail you an invoice, they may say that there is a fee for that, TELL them to waive it. If you let your subscription expire they will prorate the extra days used until renewal. The rate is the full rack rate. Have them remove the prorated days. They will only renew via invoice for 6 months, big deal.
Rule # 2 Never not follow rule #1. BTW if you let your subscription expire, within a day or two they will send you a promo for $5 a month.

Knock on wood, but I've never had a problem with them going back to 2006. The only thing I dislike is having to tell them every year that I'm not renewing because of price and them giving me a special offer to stay subscribed.

I call every year and dance the dance to get a reduced rate. It's part of the game.

I used to be lazy and let my subscription renew at their standard rate but now using a virtual card number that I set to expire at end of subscription deal.

I really don't see the attraction to Sirius/XM, unless you live in the mountains and have no cell service. The bit rate is low, so to my ear music sounds worse than FM. I much prefer Spotify Premium for my money.

The trial period for SiriusXM is typically 3 months. I've never gotten a longer trial. Just went back to my billing history and looks like I only got 3 months on my current car, too. I see MBUSA says 6 months, but somebody might have forgotten to tell SiriusXM that. I have never really had issues with SiriusXM and their customer support. Yes, you do have to call in before they automatically renew and threaten to cancel unless they give you another promotion. Works like a charm, though, and nowadays you can do it through their online chat, so no need to actually talk to somebody. I have however decided to not renew last time around. With the pandemic it just hasn't been worth it anymore. I did listen through their streaming app for a while, but stopped doing that, too, and now mainly listen to Pandora. I also had never given HD Radio a chance and discovered that it actually sounds better than SiriusXM, so now I'm mainly listen to my favorite local station on HD Radio and switch to streaming Pandora if I drive outside the broadcast area. Used to be a pain to cancel the SiriusXM subscription, but it can now also be done through the online chat. They do keep countering with promotions until you finally get them to process the cancellation, but since you don't have to waste time on the phone on hold and then talking to somebody reading from a script, it's pretty painless. I even missed to cancel before renewal, so they had already charged me at full price, but they refunded it all upon cancellation.

FYI that if you have an Amex Platinum card, you get $20/month credit for SiriusXM so it's "almost" free even for the top package without discount.

HD Radio is convenient in your local area, but if you like your local station you can download I heart radio (or a similar app) for free and stream your local station. You will get nationwide coverage as long as you have a cell signal and a data plan on your phone. There are several radio streaming apps, and usually your local station if affiliated with one of them.

Yes, that's another option, but I'm not that tied to my local station. I just mainly have it on for daily driving, because the audio apps on my phone don't always resume when I get in the car, and I don't really wanna fiddle with it for a quick errand. I'll get streaming going for a longer drive. However, it underscores the point that in the age of streaming apps, satellite radio is a dinosaur. These days, it really only is useful in remote areas with no cell reception and barely any local radio stations.

Sirius adjusts the bass in their signal to emphasize that boomy/muddy portion of the frequency spectrum (250-500 Hz) which seems to be the trend today. Unfortunately, the MB system is also tuned in the same way. The combination is horrible.

Now, our radio is defaulting to Channel 0 intermittently after you shut off your radio and re-start it. I have had three "Refresh" and nothing has changed. A bit annoying especially after arguing about shortening my trial subscription to three months. My salesperson reached out to Sirius yesterday to have the issue rectified. I do not hold much hope for Sirius to change their 3 month trial date even after showing them their initial email that stated 6 months. Will see...

Question about Sirius. I have Sirius on another vehicle and the Andriod phone app. My GLE is on order. Will I be able to connect my phone via USB and listen to Sirius through the MB sound system?
Thus not requiring a new subscription to Sirius for the GLE.

Yes you will. I do this exact same thing but in reverse, I have a subscription on the Mercedes and use the phone app in my work car.

(Gubment) Yes, my Sirius radio is now working properly in terms of keeping the previous station when starting your SUV. It was after my fourth REFRESH that the issue was resolved. The previous three attempts done with the help Sirius personnel, they required that I turn off my Bluetooth before executing the refresh signal. When I refresh it, I did not turn off the Bluetooth. Maybe that was the trick. So far, the radio has work satisfactorily. Good luck with REFRESH. By the way, I used the Sirius Link to do the refresh:
