Smile First Road Trip

Just got down to south Florida from NYC. This was the first time I used my GLE for an extended drive. I was actually hesitant taking my GLE to Florida due to all the problems and negative comments made by participants on this site. I was going to take my Honda CR-V. Well my wife and I are quite delighted with the GLE, the ride and handling was excellent. We went through some snow, rain, and wind. The MPG with a fully loaded cargo area and rear seat was fairly good. When driving at higher speeds 80 mph up to mid 90s, the miles per gallon was at 25 mpg. When traveling at about 68 mph to about 75 mph the overall mileage went up to 28 mpg. Again this was with the GLE being fully loaded.
It is a wonderful road car. I used the seat kinetics and found it good, however not great. I’m sure the massaging seats are more effective at reducing fatigue. Wasn’t quite sure when using the seat kinetics what the choice for “duration” was referring to. Is it duration between seat movements or how long that system remains activated. The navigation system worked well, often times using the exact same routes as Waze, sometimes giving us a different option which wasn’t as desirable.
Happy my CR-V is getting a well deserved rest in my garage. I hope my return trip will be as delightfully uneventful.

@Bryce1023 which GLE do you have? You might include it in your profile or signature.

It's good that you had a nice trip. That's what these cars are made for (among other things).
Seat kinetics is quite subtle, and I'm glad it doesn't change my relationship to the controls. I wish I could set it to come on every 30 - 45 minutes, automatically.

You might check your navigation settings - you may have chosen "avoid tolls" or "avoid interstates" or something that shows you routes that you don't prefer. If you wait a few seconds after entering your destination, you should see another two or three routes that show up.

The other thing that is possible, is that Here (M-B's route provider) sees traffic delays that Waze doesn't, and routes you around them. Or vice versa.

For the most part the navigation is good. I did have one issue where it kept telling me to get off the interstate on the next exit only to direct me to get back on once I got off the highway. No toll plazas or accidents to avoid. This went on for a while. I finally had it turned it off and set old reliable Google Maps. Just last week I went to a location where I had a good idea where it was. I set both navigation systems. On the final approach to the location it told me to turn left at an intersection while Google instructed me to make a right. Google was correct the house was 300 ft away . This was downtown Stuart Florida where going left instead of right could result in a life changing event.

I always take GLE for long trip because cabin is quieter and always feels like i only drove 100 miles when i actually drove 300 miles.
Even my kids feel they don't need to buckle up in GLE. I always have to tell them wear seat belts. But on my Mazda work beater, they buckle up as soon as they get in.
Also German cars usually get good highspeed mpg.

Other cars like lexus/hyundai/mazda drop mpg dramatically once i do more than 70mph.

I drove my GLE 350 up to North Carolina from Tampa Bay, Florida and it was a great trip! 10 hours never felt so quick. The only downside besides the navigation not being entirely accurate is the driver side mirror was whistling. Did you experience that with your road trip? I need to get it checked out when I bring mine in for its first service next month.

Driver side mirror whistle noise can be eliminated by
1. taking a mirror cover off
2. add a strip (0.1+ inches of diameter) to the outer edges of the housing of the mirror
3. glue the mirror cover's edge
4. stick on the housing cover with the mirror cover.
* The cover will sit about 0.15 inches away. It won't be flush fit like the passenger side but it will eliminate the noise 99.99%.
Also the strip will prevent any debris or water to sneak in.

So far this works at all speeds from 0-110mph.

Mirror was whistling during my trip, not sure why sometimes the whistling is more pronounced than at other times. Does not always seem to be a factor of speed. Will inform my MB service advisor when I bring it in for my A service sometime in March. Hopefully they will have a service bulletin and a solution.

it is dependent on the airspeed and direction, thus your speed and whether you are driving with a headwind/tailwind will play a part.
