Who has these REAL exhaust ports on their 450s? When did this stop and for what reason we have a fake exhaust on our GLEs right now? Can't be cost is the reason as there will be less plastic to mold
AFAIK they always had fakes and would get real ones with the AMG exterior package
I have the AMG Exterior package and the "Fake" ports as well. Many manufacturers do this now, shame on Mercedes for not including real "Ports" with the AMG Package.

My '20 with AMG Line Exterior has active ports with valved exhaust.
Manufacturers are responding to complaints about soiled tips. It's a disappointing trend, but at least the exhaust is there. There are worse examples ...
My November 2020 build-date GLE450 with AMG/Night has the real thing. As far as I know, no GLE350 has the real thing
I have a 450 and my this is what I have. My '21
450 with sport package has a late 2021 build date. It seems the exhaust is different from other builds. I only have single ports on either side and only one has the valve. I wonder why they changed it and does it affect anything at all.

Less tubing and one less actuator - bean counters at work!

I think what the OP is referencing is the "Fake" chrome opening, not the "Active Sports Exhaust" Basically, they would like the actual exhaust pipes to be dressed up and seen exiting the vehicle.

"Who has these REAL exhaust ports on their 450s? When did this stop and for what reason we have a fake exhaust on our GLEs right now?" -- which is why I posted the pictures/videos to answer OP's question.
I think that IS what is he is saying, at least with the AMG Exterior and Night Package Mercedes could have dressed it up a bit more, or even option it out.
I'm still confused about the "Active Sports Exhaust", I assume it does "something", is it standard on all GLE 450's? I only have mine as a reference and the 350 did sound different, but that was also a 4 cylinder.
The question is the exhaust is different. Is there any peformance handicap with such change. 4 ports vs 2 ports.
I measured my exhaust pipes with a caliper. The smaller unvalved one is 1.9" ID, the larger valved one is 2.5" ID. That translates to 2.8 sq. in. & 4.9 sq. in. free area, respectively. With the dual pipe system like on mine you have 5.6 sq. in. of area for the exhaust in normal mode (2 small pipes), and 15.4 sq. in. with valves open in Sport mode (4 pipes). Shotgun's setup with one pipe on each side for each function has 4.9 sq. in. in normal (1 large pipe) and 9.8 sq. in with valve open (2 large pipes). So, that's 12% less in normal and 36% less in Sport.
What we don't k now is if they played with the internal baffling of the muffler. My guess is there is should be some performance difference, especially in Sport mode.

The Active Sport Exhaust was a component in the AMG package on my 2021 GLE450. When the GLE is in Sport mode, a flap opens in the exhaust, which increases the exhaust sound. Truth be told, I really don't notice any change in the exhaust sound, possibly because I also have the acoustic package.

On the MBUSA.com website, the 2022 GLE450 has this option:
Optional Sport Exhaust System A movable flap integrated into the sport exhaust system allows for intensification of the GLE's sound experience. The acoustics can be adjusted via DYNAMIC SELECT.
Available in AMG Line Exterior, AMG Line Exterior w/Night Package"
When it says "can be adjusted' that means for my 2021 it's either on (in sport mode) or off (in eco and comfort modes), there is no adjustment other than those.

Greg,
Do you have active sport exhaust option on your 450? tried to search the part online and I can only pull the same exhaust system for a 450 which is the same as mine. I wonder if that part is now discontinued.

Flap(s) also open in Sport+ mode, of course, for those that have it.

Yes, we both have it, just that they cheapened it apparently starting with at least some ‘21s. Whether the muffler style like I have is still available is questionable; probably not. I see the one you posted says, “Replaces…”
