Eco Stop/Start incredibly Rough

Eco Stop/Start incredibly Rough
Recently took delivery of a 2022 GLE 350. We now have about 500 miles on it. When stopping at traffic lights the ECO Start/Stop kicks in as expected and the symbol lights op green on the dash. Within 10 to 15 seconds the car will shudder and lurch relatively violently. Enough that it feels like we were rear ended. It happens regardless of the setting (Eco, Dynamic….). Also happens if we have Hold on ot just our foot on the brake. I know years ago auto makers had trouble with this system working smoothly but I thought they had worked out the kinks. When we test drove the vehicle prior to ordering the function was not nearly this rough. The dealer checked the car and said that is normal. Does everyone have this problem or are some cars just rougher than others? Does it get better over time? Otherwise I like the car but not sure I can live with this as is. Would love some feedback before doing battle with the dealer who has not interest in helping smooth this out.

Unfortunately, yes. I had two V167 GLE350s, and they both jerked like a rear end collision every time the S/S kicked in. You will also note that your wiper blades will skip when wet (rain, not wiper fluid) to the point of driving you mad.
Two things that seem to be unsolvable for MB.
I suggest getting the Mid City Engineering programming to allow for permanent disabling of the S/S mode.

2023 GLE450, 2021 E350 / Used to drive: 2019 E300, 2021 + 2020 GLE350, 2019 E450 Wagon(s), 2017 E300
Doug, I am with CMF on this - my 2020 GLE350 had the same very noticeable stop/start - not sure there is a way to completely hide the use of a pretty small engine in a pretty big vehicle. Oddly, I had a GMC Terrain for a rental car last week with an incredibly smooth start/stop feature... I loved my GLE, but there were things about it - the wipers skipping and the stop/start in particular - that were not really consistent with a premium vehicle.

2022 GLE 450 (Black on Black)
I had a 2021 GLE350 as a loaner a few weeks ago, and the Stop/Go feature while not as seamless as the GLE450, it was not that jerky in its start but noticeable. With regards to the wiper vibration issue, I just squirt the windshield and eventually the issue is minimized until heavy rain hits the windshield. It is has been an issue with MB's wiper blade for years.

Hey OP did you test drive the 350 and 450 before you bought your vehicle? The difference between the two auto start and stop is heaven and earth. The 350 will jerk no matter what you do as it is more of a conventional 4 banger setup of MB which is not that smooth. You might need to learn to press the button right besides the start button every time you turn on the vehicle. If you have not driven a 450 before DON'T as you might hate your 350.

[QUOTE=Sieveboy;8528669]the windshield is drenched with a thick hydrophobic polymer or wax of some type, it needs to be mechanically scrubbed off. Multiple times. There is a MB bulletin on it, but this also works...
I ordered the stuff from amazon. Happy to try.
I already alerted MB to the service bulletin, not sure if they did along those lines. Wiper still skipping.

For what it is worth, on mine the skipping goes away as the wiper blades age and get some use. When replaced with new blades, the skipping returns.

This has been discussed and I was told that all the GLEs are in fact seamless with the start stop. You obviously are not feeling what you think you are feeling.

I agree with Treihing, mine smoothed out over time. I notice it when the car starts back up (I always have the air on), but I guess I am used to it.

Real question, however, is whether it really smoothed out or whether I just got used to it!

Same experience here, it smooths out with mileage and use.
