In 2024, brand new Mercedes Benz models will hit the road featuring Nvidia's self-driving technology, and they'll be joined soon after by cars from Tata Motors' Jaguar and Land Rover.








The self driving is coming whether we like it or not. If it's a prescription service then we might still have an option with/without.
Quite frankly self-driving is a decade away for major cities, you can barely drive here as an experienced driver.
Unless carmakers themselves invest into roads bridges & tunnels, it just ain't happening my city can't even get road striping right.

However, Mercedes is ahead of Tesla in self-driving technology. Not only have they been doing it longer, but they are the first to receive full approval from some entities on public roads.
Tesla isn't there yet. Nor is google, Apple, or any of the other hopefuls.

With 9/10 cameras per vehicle, including driver-facing cams, those things are pumping an enormous amount of data into their servers.
Hardware-wise it's simply cameras, radar, and ultrasonic and that hasn't changed much, data & algorithms is where the efforts seems to be headed.

A phased approach is more likely than full Level 5 self driving. The Freeway could lead the way with trucks first and autos not far behind. Then as system architecture and capability advance we might see point to point followed years later by full Level 5.
It might take legislation at the Federal Level or State by State to make it feasible though. The huge potential liability in our Litigious Society might be one of the biggest obstacles.
