Sudden Jerks while in idle (parked)
Sudden Jerks while in idle (parked)
Hello, does anyone else have this issue where when you’re parked, there is a sudden jerk or it feels like someone bumped into you. I am worried, trying to see if this is a normal thing or do I need to take it to the dealer. Car only have 3k miles on it.

I don't know how big of a jolt you're talking about but I have noticed my 450 move after I have stopped and put it in park. Sometimes it seems to happen when the parking brake engages and other times it's not engaged but I am in park but it will moves. Have noticed this on my GLC 350w as well

I have it too after parking for like 10 minutes with the engine running. Something lets loose, like an auto park brake or what not. First time it happened it was like I got bumped gently from behind, and after I came to my senses and realized nothing was behind me, I figured it out. It happens each time I let it sit and idle. I am used to it now. It's just a slight movement, really, but when the car is so quiet and still, it is def. noticeable. This is all on flat/level surfaces. No hills really here in FLA.

Maybe the engine was on 'auto start/stop' and due to electric drawn, the engine came to life which made your felt the vehicle jerked? was the vehicle 'on' and idling for minutes?
it's def not auto s/s. I have that switched off via programming. engine runs all the time. the BRAKE light on the dash goes out after the 10 min of idling, so it's the system releasing the pressure.
I don't think it's related to the HVAC or brake. I just pulled into a parking spot and put it in park. Brake light is not on and the car is in eco mode, so stop/start is engaged and the car creeped multiple times. Brake never came on and didn't restart. Definitely odd behavior.

I have owned 3 E-Class vehicles since 1999, none of them did this. Funny thing it started to happen right after my 1st A service on my 2002 E Class 2 weeks ago. I will keep an eye on it.
I get what I consider mini-slippages in my vehicle when parked on a mild incline, in PARK, with the car running. It feels like the brakes take a quarter second and cycle off then on. Very bizarre behavior. Nothing on flat ground, so I can't be certain this is the same issue that the OP raises.
No such moves when the car is in park with the ignition OFF (parking brake is then activated).

If this is a behavior in the parking lot while having the car running it maybe possible that the car is on HOLD instead of park.
I usually do that when stopping in front of a store/waiting for wife. I usually roll up to the spot and press the brake pedal which puts the car in hold. Auto hold will release after a certain time (5 minutes or so) and then switch to Park and the release of the brakes jolts the car as if someone slightly bumped it.
Easy to test and find out if that's the jolt. If so, it works as expected.

Jerking when stationary in D or P
Hi my W213 has started to jerk/jolt whilst the engine is running on tickover, it’s not the handbrake or stop/start, no warning lights have appeared also, I’m baffled?

My GL550 2012 had similar issue recently (jolt at idle/stop) and became more prominent over time. I took it to a dealer who couldn't reproduce it initially until I sat in car with the mechanic and tried many stops.
Mechanic couldn't root cause during time we had since it cannot be reliably reproduced. We tried reset the computer after which the symptom lessened by a lot.
Mechanic suggested to wait for the issue to become more prominent again (consistently reproducible). Some other suspicions include bad spark plug.

I realize this is an old thread, but I just had this happen to my '24 GLE53. It has about 2700 miles on it and was just in for service and received a software update for HUD issues. It did not due this prior to going in to the dealer.
I was sitting in Park (not brake hold) for a few minutes at a touchless car wash (in carwash mode, so no AutoStart) for a winter rinse...and kept hearing the sound of break creep (you know that sounds). Not something you hear when your foot is not on the break. I put it in drive and rolled forward and put in Park again. Same sound occurred. I applied the parking brake, and it displayed in RED on the dash accordingly. When I released it, the car lurched. As if it were relying the parking break. I was on level ground.
Seeing that the software update did not fix my HUD problem, it will be going back in again. Curious to know if anyone found a resolution to this "break creep". Until now the breaks have been solid! I use break hold on hills at traffic lights, and it works flawlessly. I don't understand why the breaks are acting strangely now. I plan to try to replicate in different scenarios so I can demonstrate to the dealer.
