Individual Drive Mode + Restoration At Start
There’s a setting in the individual drive mode menu that indicates a restoration at start feature. I selected it and I don’t remember seeing the prompt asking me if I want to stay in the previous drive mode setting (and it defaulted back to Comfort). Where is that prompt and how long does it last?
Also, I don’t know why it just doesn’t force it to the last drive mode versus adding a superfluous extra step that doesn’t save much versus just manually changing it after startup.

Some Euro countries have concerns about crushing people under the car with suspension movement, and this might be M-Bs solution.
Similar to the laws against getting pinched by closing windows, which now have reversing features if they encounter resistance.

I don't think any touch pad works, if it does someone correct me, because I never use the touch screen to try to reduce finger prints. It's to the point where I actually forget it has touch capability.

Because it's illegal. Emissions regulations force manufacturers to default the powertrain mode to the mode that was used to homologate the car and certify its fuel economy. Less fuel efficient modes are permitted as long as they require explicit input from the driver to select them. These modes are not allowed to be automatically selected on startup. AMG once had a memory function on the AMG GT, where the car remembered the last mode for 4 hours and during the 4 hours started in the last used mode. The authorities didn't like that and AMG had to get rid of it. The prompt is about as automatic that they can make it. It still requires driver input, so it meets regulations.
