Off-road Driving Mode - Just Appeared??

I am almost certain that my 2021 GLE 580 had only four driving modes: individual; sport; comfort; and eco.

However, it now appears I have a fifth: off-road. I'm assuming this was because of a recent update OTA. Did anyone else notice this?

Or have I missed this driving mode for a year?

I've always had Off Road on my 2020 450, but I have E-ABC.

Sooo, we’re both tripping?

Ha! I’m showing this to my wife, when I said it to her about a month ago, she just smiled and said “Ok Honey, but when are we going off-road?” Lol, totally not my point! I noticed it also and it limits the car to 68mph….

Maybe the option was there and we never saw it, but if you’re willing to stand firm, I am your ally! 🤓

It was always there on my 2020 GLE 450. I used it to Jack up the vehicle height to garage my Polaris RZR…my driveway is steep so this helped level the trailer to clear the top of the garage door. It’s also always been an available function on my 2021 GLE 53.

I have Off Road, as well as "Slippery" and "Sand" on the 53.

Just this past weekend (while in line at a car wash, fiddling with Car Wash mode and watching the ride height, I found that "Sand" lifts higher than "Off Road," and also increases throttle response and opens up the exhaust. Interesting.

Off Road gives more gentle throttle application, and Slippery is even more gentle.

You aren't "limited" in speed in any of these modes - they will just disengage and return to a Comfort (?) setting when the mph is exceeded.

I don’t remember it on my 580. I too just remember those 4 modes. When I get back from vacation I’ll try too look.

I finally got back and looked. Mine does have it and I think we’ve missed it because it is on a different screen that the other modes. I also looked it up in the manual and it references it so apparently we just missed it.
Now I need to go find some rocks to climb with it. Haha

I noticed it 2 weeks ago, and couldn't believe it wasn't there before. Glad I am not the only one.

Noticed it on my GLE 350 last week. I don't remember seeing it previously. If OTA, there's no record of the download on the Mercedes Me Connect app.

When I start my 350 I always use the DYNAMIC selector switch on the center console to enter ECO mode. Off Road is the next selection on the list. It has always been there since I took delivery in June 2019.

.
Depending on how many driving modes you have, the offroad one might be just off the screen. It's not obvious that you can keep scrolling down beyond the first 4 or 5 options that are displayed at the same time. There's a tiny scroll bar on the left side of the screen, but it's obscured by the steering wheel at least from my seating position.

I was wondering if you guys with AMG models (53 or 63) have a "Snow" mode? Or is that completely out in the US market and needed to be enabled by third-party folks like RJ?

No Snow mode on mine but I'll check again in a few.

I’m guessing that “Slippery” mode is the same thing with a different name. I have never used it but will give it a go this winter unless my Porsche comes before then.

My 53 has Slippery (snowflake symbol), Sand and Trail.
Sand opens the exhaust and the throttle is more aggressive, Slippery is just the opposite, and Trail decreases throttle response. Trail and Sand raise the car.
Also have Car Wash, FWIW.

BTW the Car Wash mode opens the rear camera.

I don't see off road in my list of modes. I do have Trail though. Maybe off road is accessible from another mbux menu? Dunno. Or, maybe Trail is the same thing.

Here's my list (RJA programming added Race mode) :

AMG models never got off road, because they have sand trail and slippery instead. The off road mode has been added to non AMG models which never have different types of off road settings.

As far as I can tell the Off Road mode and Sand and Trail are the same-Non AMG to AMG. (Requires Air Suspension) There might be a difference in engine/transmission mapping but both modes raise the suspension about the same amount. I used each of these modes to raise my vehicle to back a trailer into my vacation home garage with a steep driveway. Same trailer same clearance on my old GLE 450 and my current GLE 53. I don’t recall the exact height change but it’s about 2”.
I’m guessing Snow and Slippery mode are also very similar or the same! There isn’t enough difference between the two vehicles to justify a different setup. Maybe the GLE 63 S has a difference.
