GLE350 vs GLE450

Purchased my GLE 350 4MATIC 3 weeks ago.
Loved it especially the staggered twin-spoke star wheels. Unfortunately the 4 cylinder engine disappointed. I tried ignoring it and making myself think that it would grow on me but in the end I could not live with it. Off the line it was a slouch, though, very peppy once in motion. But I just couldn't get over the vibration and sound of the 4-banger on such a big SUV/Truck. Fuel economy is horrible for a 4 cylinder (couldn't get over 19.1 MPG on a 5k mile vehicle). Sadly, it had to go.

GLE 450s are hard to come by in any spec and the dealers are selling whatever little stock they can get for $10,000 + above sticker as suggested and encouraged by MB-USA (I know first hand as I encountered this). I tried doing a build but delivery is out 6-7 months. Not an option.

Enter my brand new GLE 450 which is one a customer ordered and did not take delivery of as he instead opted to wait another 6 months and get a 2023. Same spec (minus wireless charger, augmented reality camera, spoiler and silver color) I was looking for. Price was fair in my opinion as I did not buy into the bull**** of the higher than sticker monkey business but lost a couple of grand on the trade in of my 3 week old GLE 350 (I tried beating them with a stick but the dealership would not budge even after I had walked away and off the planet for 2 days. In the end, I am very pleased though not in love with the AMG wheels. I will be looking to trade with someone for the staggered twin-spoke if anyone is interested,

Good move, you will soon forget the $$. Driving a car you don’t like can be a slow death.

I'm on bordering on rebuying another GLE53 with a few options I regret not getting. So I can definitely relate to spending a little more and get what you want the first time.

I got a trade in value on my GLE 53 Saturday so I could try to sell it myself before my new car arrives. My Dealer is selling new cars at MSRP (6 month backlog) but they are getting MSRP+ on used. Crazy market today.

I've gotten a quote for MSRP as trade in over the phone for mine, it's a 2022 with 3,800 miles so I'm trying to get more. I'm not quite at the value to make me want to finalize a trade yet. but I'd get close soon. If KBB trade in values are reliable at all, I'd get almost what I paid after tax as trade.

Good move - the 450 is so much more refined and fitting for this vehicle, IMO. You should have no problem getting rid of the wheels, though finding the ones you want may take a while. Are you talking about the 21" Twin 5-Spoke or 20" AMG Twin 5-Spoke? The former are my favorite.

He's in Florida... might be the 22s since all-seasons are less of a concern.

This place is a joke.
I agree the 350 4matic is an underpowered slug, the 2wd is barely adequate. I like the AMG wheels, the multispoke looks classy.

Beautiful spec, and I agree, the 450 is hard to pass up on with its silky smooth Inline-6.

When I spec'd my 2022 53 in OCT 2021, my SA kept trying to get me to leave off several of the options (to his wisdom, he figured they might prove to be $$ to fix down the road - then I told him I'd be getting the extended MB coverage to 100k and he'd get the trade in long before that anyway, so he was good with the extras then). When I spec'd a replacement 2021 Superduty for my 2017, it was bordering 90k+. The Cayenne GTS with nearly the same performance and sparkly bits as the GLE53 was closer to 130k (GLE 63S level). So 105k for the GLE53 wasn't much of a stretch in my mind. Ticked off nearly all the option boxes. No regrets.

So yeah, reorder with what you want. I just hope you can get all the options due to the shortages - for instance I see in the 2023 DOG that the Burmester 3D is not available right now - that stinks. I love that oem setup. Really sounds awesome. If you are not a closet audio nut like me the regular system is just fine of course. Hope they add it back in soon for ordering.

After going back and forth I settled with these wheels. Imo very classy and matched well with the AMG line. Btw, mine are staggered. Is it because yours is 4matic?

Porsche is building/delivering $200,000 Cayenne Turbo GT’s without the Burmester-that happens to be a required part of the safety system. Then the car might sit at the Dealer for up to 2 months waiting until one is available. It doesn’t look like they will catch back up on the Burmester system anytime soon. There doesn’t seem to be an explanation for the shortage but chips and high demand might be a factor.

I read an article last week when tech stocks had a deep drop, they were saying it was due to excessive inventories on chips that were acquired during covid peaks. But who whos what those guys say. They seem to always have an explanation after the facts. Lol

Purely conjecture on my part, but I often wonder if mb is directing the in-demand chips to the launch/build of all the new EQ electric cars. Leaving the ICE lines short on the nicer options. Just a Swag. Or, mb grossly underprepared for the demand and was too reliant on JIT logistics for the supply. Hence the dearth of options we're going through. Hmmmm. Be nice to have a real answer but I don't trust any corporate messaging to be completely honest. From mb or any other mfg.

MB has been very clear to dealers that it is redirecting chips to its highest-profit vehicles. G, SL, S-Class, EQS, and AMG Models are essentially top priority for MB at the moment. A, GLA, CLA, and GLB are the lowest priority. GLE and GLS has been a high priority as well especially considering they are high volume vehicles, but they do not outrank the S and EQS at the moment. When you sell 2+ Million cars a year, you can only do so much with so little.

You are correct. Much more refined and smooth. The difference is day and night.
The wheels that I want are the staggered 21" twin spoke. My dealership refused to swap them from my trade in onto the 450 claiming they cannot deliver new vehicles with equipment it was not ordered with (some sort of MB-USA policy). Apparently they had an issue in the past with a similar request and were sued.

Looking forward to getting contacted by someone who may want to trade.

Mine as staggered as are the 21" twin spoke. The twin spoke makes it look more sportier and robust.

BS-they could swap after you bought it. The real reason is that they can’t sell your trade as a CPO.

That's what I told them. Deliver the vehicle as ordered and then 1 week later swap from my trade in. I told them I would sign any release form and involve an attorney if they required it.
Still refused claiming management said "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES", equipment can be changed even if it cost them 10 walk outs.
I threatened exactly that. They wouldn't budge. In the end I gave in.

you may be correct. I remember reading on bmw forums… some features/options are available on hybrids but not ice.
