So the 2020 GLE 350 engine made in the USA as stated on the window sticker (Monroney) is made by Nissan?

Yes, in the same factory and under the same production management as the engine for the Nissan Altima, in Decherd, Tennessee, USA.

But for clarity it should be stated that this is not a Nissan engine but a Mercedes engine and Nissan was contracted to build them to spec for Mercedes under a partnership agreement.

Of course. Nissan is the hired gun by MB to pump engines out the factory door. Just like engines for Altimas.

Funniest thing is I only wanted a GLE 450 when I bought my 350. There weren't any available so I settled. I kept telling the SA that I didn't want the 350 because it sounded like a Nissan Rogue. Perfect pitch?

I can relate... I couldn't stand the sound of the 4 cylinder after coming from a W166 V6. I apprehensively purchased a beautifully spec-ed 350 and 3 weeks later traded for a 450.

I'm 2.5 years in and can say I'm finally over 450 envy.

Don't get me wrong. The 350's engine is more than capable and very peppy once you get it going. I just could not live without the smoothness and sound of the 6-cylinder as I was already used to it coming from a '15 ML-350 and '12 C-300 Sport. Other than the engine and options, we all drive the same GLE at the end of the day. Enjoy it.

This is the problem. This whole Nissan discussion is neither relevant nor helpful. It only serves to confuse members and to somewhat elude to something inferior. All German car manufacturers have vendors in various, less developed countries and nobody cares. The key is that everything is build to spec.
I for one don't think less of Porsche because a bunch of parts come from eastern Europe, etc.

And I don't think less of Mercedes for having Porsche build the E55 engines. Or their cars for a couple of years, either!

Technically, I believe the engines made in Decherd are made in a plant that manufactures engines for Infiniti and MB, while another plant on site makes Nissan engines. Nitpicking, i know.

I have to say after being a large displacement owner of MBs through the years i was skeptical of the little M264, but now I have 1 year with it and 9k miles and I must say i am impressed. You will not win any drag races but for my wifes daily driver it gets good mileage, super smooth and quiet. I change the oil every 3k miles and it does not use any oil either.

The M256 is a beautiful engine but that 48v system seems to the think that keeps me from being excited about it. The motor to have is the M177...smooth V8 4.0 liter engine.

The V8s are using the 48V battery now too.

So I found this in the news feed, apparently they will cease production of engines for Mercedes? https://www.autonews.com/manufacturi...roduct-sharing

More like the 2.0 Mercedes engines Nissan builds and also puts in Infinity. Here, a second option for the article which I could not open on the link above.

You're good. Just wanted to emphasize the point that the engine is Mercedes-Benz and Nissan makes it.
It is interesting to note, based on the article, that Nissan employs a different line and Mercedes-Benz protocols for engines destined to Mercedes vehicles.

Oil Changes...

I live in super Hot Houston TX and that turbo is running really hot. Planning on keeping the GLE for a long haul of time and want to keep that turbo bearings from cooking. Also at 3000 to 3500 miles the oil is fairly dark, oil is cheap, cars are not!

I don’t know if modern turbos are prone to oil coking as much as they were in the past. But yes, frequent oil changes are helpful (5k is probably enough) but an even better preventive measure is letting the car idle after any spirited driving before shutdown. Even though these cars have, I believe, coolant pumps that continue to operate after the car is off just to cool off the turbos (at least my BMW did), it’s always recommended to not abruptly turn it off after any heavy driving. I think it even mentions that in the manual, or maybe that was BMW.
