EQE SUV

https://group-media.mercedes-benz.co...9pZD00ODM2MjU4

The EQE SUV is the multi-purpose variant of the EQE executive saloon, available just like this latter model with the key innovations of the EQS yet at the same time more dynamic than the EQS SUV. In terms of headroom and legroom, as well as elbow room, the five-seater EQE SUV is one of the most spacious representatives of its class. The EQE SUV celebrates its world premiere on 16 October 2022.

There is more info saying it will be available in 2023 but:
That's in global markets, though. Mercedes-Benz confirmed to Autoblog that American-spec models will come standard with two separate screens: a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. The Hyperscreen setup will not be offered in our market for the 2023 model year; not even as an option. Moving beyond the dashboard, the five-seater interior features a blend of trim materials including wood and aluminum, and buyers will have five color combinations to choose from. We're told the EQE will be one of the most spacious models in its class.
Let the rumor mill spin!

I don't understand the tiny rear windscreen?

Good stuff. I think I’m going to get an EV for my next car and this might be it.

Yeah, that rear window is tiny. However, it probably wouldn’t matter too much if it has a rear view camera. In fact, I hope it has slick cameras just like the Tesla.

That’s too bad about the hyperscreen. Hopefully the screen becomes available over the next few years after release.

I would expect it to have really good cameras.
Mercedes has been leading Tesla in autonomous driving for quite a while.
Mercedes already has approval to operate their autonomous cars on public roads, under certain conditions.
Despite their multiple wavelength radar and cameras, their permissions require the system to deactivate during fog and other low visibility situations.
I expect Mercedes has done a better job to protect their IP, after Tesla bought their battery partner and IP, I think in 2018.

Looks good. The sail side mirror suggests the exterior appearance will be needlessly bulbous with a far-forward base of windshield.

It will look like a mini EQS-SUV

Ugh. I was hoping the cab-forward idea went out with the 1996 Taurus.

Sadly aerodynamics mean were gonna be seeing a resurgence of cab-forward vehicles.

One thing I’ve noticed about EV SUVs, at least from the European brands—including the Audi E-Tron, ugly BMW iX and now the EQS/E—is that they look more like minivans than SUVs. This is caused in large part due to the location of the heavy batteries under the floor. This results in both a taller body and less gap beneath the frame, coupled with the traditional boxy design of the hatch area, makes it look very much like a minivan.

Tesla’s Model X gives up that traditional boxy design, hence it doesn’t look like a minivan but it certainly sacrifices space and room. It’s essentially an SUV “Coupe.” In fact the GLE Coupe looks more like the Model X than the traditional GLE.

The Model X looks very minivan-ish to me thanks to those long rear doors, like Doug Demuro I call it a Pidgeon-Winged Minivan

I agree about the MPV looks, just look at an iX versus X5 or EQS SUV versus GLS. I like the Rivian R1S, but would be weary of a new company. The Cadillac Lyriq looks pretty decent, if a bit overstyled in some areas, but has a more traditional shape. The Mustang Mach-E despite its stupid naming is still probably the best looking EV SUV, with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq5 as a close second. The E-Tron SUV is also very good looking, but lacks in efficiency/range thanks to the carryover platform.

I guess it kind of does but the BMW iX looks a lot more like a Honda Odyssey than the Tesla Model X, which kind of looks like a more bulbous GLE Coupe.

Lol, people either love or hate the GLE coupe, there’s really no in between. I like it obviously. Just something about it strikes a chord, just like the Audi S7 I had. Consequently, I like the Model X, too. Love them or hate them, but these shapes are the future as we migrate to EVs and efficiency.

The beaver tooth grill on the BMW is giving Lexus some competition for hideousness. At least Mercedes seems to be able to make a good looking EV.

The previous GLE Coupe was "bulbous and ugly," like the Tesla. The new 167 version is a vast improvement. If Tesla could afford to re-tool, they'd update their aging look too.

I just watched the entire replay of Tesla's Annual Shareholders Meeting. It's a Cult.
He's an extraordinary man, but his predatory moves should be outlawed. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some lawsuits from such as BMW and M-B about IP theft. VW and Stellantis, too. Oh and Twitter.

Expect the same powertrains as the EQE sedan:

350
350 4Matic
500 4Matic
43 AMG (EU)
53 AMG (Global)

EQE SUV pricing

Any intel on the price of the EQE SUV? Should we expect it to be about $3,000 more than its EQE sedan models? That seems to be how it works for the EQS sedan vs SUV models.

If I had to guess starting price would be at or close to 80 for the basic model, probably up to 110 fully loaded highest tier model

That was in the past. It was in fact revealed that day. We’ll see if it actually enters regular production soon, but I haven’t seen any photos of pre pro cars being tested in Alabama, so that suggests to me were still a few months away from regular production, with release for sales a few weeks later at earliest. For example with the EQS SUV it was revealed mid April, I saw pre pro cars being spotted in Alabama in late spring and summer, and the car started normal production late July/early august And was released for sales early September. For the EQE, I could either see it being released around February as a 2023 or over the summer as a 2024.

On the EQS, the price between sedan and SUV is identical. Given how expensive the sedan is, I hope MB doesn’t price the SUV higher.
