Purchased a New GLE63 S Coupe! Purchase Experience.
The dealer than told me it would be $20K over a $133K MSRP. I laughed and said no thanks. They came back at $15K over MSRP and offered to increase my trade-in of $48k to $49K (which was black book, true car, and carfax estimate: $48-$49k). I emailed 9 dealers in 120 mile radius and 3-4 dealers further out that had the same config. One came back w/ $5K above MSRP and offered $51.5K for my trade-in (I sent pics of damage and VIN, etc), and only 90 miles out. I told them to come up to $52k on trade-in and I would pick it up, considering this was above trade-in value and saved me $3.5K, and they agreed. I told my original dealer about the offer and they said they would match it. I told them "no thanks, unless the would beat the offer." They did. I ended up getting the car for $5K above MSRP, but got $52.5K for my trade-in (~$3.5k above estimates), plus free all weather mats and trunk liner, and AMG tire valve caps. And, considering I didn't have to pay $3.5k for repairs and a new key, I felt good about this offer and I'm loving my new GLE!
It was a little painful negotiating given low market supply, but it still seems possible, especially w/ trade-ins in the mix. Without my trade-in, I probably wouldn't have made the deal work and wouldn't have paid above MSRP. That said, I also noted all the dealers I reached out to 2weeks ago, no longer have any black GLE63s in stock. Crazy.

Great job negotiating. It's the formula I use and recommend to others. Shop your favorite dealer first, if you can't get together, do some additional shopping.
The important thing IMO is to take the results of that shopping to your first dealer and see if they can match it. It's more likely that they will, for a variety of reasons.
One Good reason is that the sales manager will have a written document to show to his/her manager, giving them fuel and justification for selling to you, now.
Besides getting the price you were looking for, you get to go to your favored dealer.
Nice car snd nice job.
