Took car to dealer for rough downshifts.
Was reproducible.
They said they are aware of it, but no fix exists.
AMG version has same issue, but worse, and there is a fix for that per dealer.
He will be talking to MB rep later this week.
Very frustrating.
I just did my JD Power survey and the transmission was one big negative point I indicated, both in harshness and delay.
I also indicated a lack of full screen CarPlay and interior rattles with CarPlay my suggested JD Power to MB communication item lol. They need it implement full-screen now. I don’t care about losing the climate control indicators. They can make it so the climate control only appears while adjusting while full screen CarPlay is active.

^^ Serious question. I've had CarPlay in at least four cars or so over the years. I've attempted to use it a couple of times over the years and never saw any real benefit to it for me. Even two of my grown up kids tried it and didn't see much use for it either. What do you use it for?
I don’t want to hijack this thread too much, but I use CarPlay a lot. If you’re a heavy Siri user and/or text a lot, it’s a godsend, especially the voice to text capabilities. I also prefer to use Google Maps for Navigation (through CarPlay) for the satellite imagery at all zoom levels. The 3D satellite imagery is a lot easier to decipher for me and it won’t come up at all in MBUX. And of course lossless Apple Music.

Same here. Siri to text is fantastic. Anything music related of course as mentioned. We don't actually use navigation but Waze is our standard go-to (albeit the UI being ugly as sin) for additional protection besides the radar detector.

Other manufacturers are dropping Wireless for Wired Carplay in their new interfaces. Fewer full screens. Apple seems to be changing a lot for their license, and they have found the Price Resistance point.
Sorry about your car. Most of us don't have your issues.
If you want wireless, just enable your Bluetooth connection and it'll start when you turn on the ignition.
All Waze has ever done for me is to reroute into a traffic jam. They are trying to fix the reporting problems, but so far no luck. It's inherent in their model.
The MB Near system, with better Car-to-X implementation, is the future of Nav.
I had my downshifting issues addressed at my first service. Per the service summary:
CUSTOMER STATES TRANSMISSION SHIFTS HARD ON DOWNSHIFTS
Tech: Ran quick test found no codes. Found PTSS cases for same issue, some performed software updates to fix issue. Performed software updates on trans and transfer case. Test drove car is now shifting properly.
Well, the tech is full of it ... the harsh downshift remains. No improvement whatsoever. The frustration is building ...

Yes I do. I am about to take that journey now, dealing with it as it annoys me enough on principle.
I am consistently seeing posts stating replacement of the valve body results in a permanent fix.
My issues: rough downshift from 3-2, clanking and lurching, screeching at 2-1 downshifts.
The transmission with produce a "thud" and vehicle lurches when shifting from P to D and vice versa.
It is progressively worse when driving in Sport vs driving in Comfort.
Thanks for sharing... is this applicable to the V167s? Anyone had success with Force Adaptation for a GLE here?
It worked for me over a year ago, and its been fine since. However, some members have reported no difference. Although, I only had the rough down shifting from 3 to 2; not the screeching and lurching from P to D.
EDIT:
My service report only states "PERFORMED ADTAPTIONS OF TRANS MODULE" @mikapen loves the spelling !!

Thanks a lot for the info @TonyF61 . Worth a try...
I will take below to the dealership and let's see how it goes, will update here once there's news...
Interestingly from what I can discern from the comments below it appears that this simply forces the learning pattern the transmission is supposed to make anyway.
Guessing my transmission learned the wrong things since day one...

A) There’s absolutely no reason for any owner to have to endure an additional “transmission adaptation” other than to cover up incompetence and ignorance.
B] We shouldn’t have to do a dumb “transmission adaptation” if the morons at MB engineered it correctly to begin with.
C) The lead transmission engineer is probably some executive running the company.
