They should had made it a warranty issue as it was a design flaw, the keys are so easy to be accidentally pressed than previous generation key. For a used to be attention to detail company like MB, this is an oversight.

I have the same problem with my BMW key fob. I don't think manufacturers expect you to carry keys in a pocket anymore.

A fanny pack will suffice. 😉

I hate carrying keys in my pocket and so I clip my keys on a small carabiner clip on my belt loop.

Just got my two keys done at the dealer. Works great and MB should have done this from the get go. They also didn't charge me for it.

That's good they didn't charge you since it specifically says they can. Such a minor programming should be free with any service.

Yup good for sure, on their part for not charging, makes the customer feel appreciated and probably want to take the vehicle back to the same dealership for any future maintenance service given this positive experience.

Had the same issue. Buttons on key fob are accidentally activated in my wife's purse or my pocket and damaged the tailgate.
The easy solution is a hard leather case (search: car fob leather case). Cheap and very effective! We never use the push keys on the fob anyway; really, my wife never takes the key out of her purse.

I wonder if a soft leather case might also work.
These looked interesting:

The ones you show obviously are designed to still push all the buttons. I would assume that they are less sensitive with such a case, but the one I showed will clearly stop the issue. Having said that, I have no idea why anybody would still use the fob push buttons. Walk to the car, put your hand on the handle and it will open; get out of the car, put your thumb on the handle and it closes. Trunk has hands free open. So I never, ever use the key fob buttons. I actually wish they had the fob in the shape of a credit card to be put in my wallet - that's really all that is needed.

Not sure if you have a family or not. In may case I do, and somethimes multiple people are accessing the vehicle at the same time. Often before I get a chance to put my hand on the handle. Usually not much of an issue, but on rainy or cold days, the button is a convienent feature to allow them access before I get close enough to touch the handle. If not for that, I would agree that there is not much need for the buttons.

personally I keep my key in one of these. No accidental presses and keeps the key signal away from thieves

But don't you need to take it out of the box for the vehicle to recognize the key to unlock the doors?

The keyless go systems that come with our Mercedes models can be disabled simply by pressing the lock button twice. This stops the key from broadcasting altogether. However, remember that you'll need to use your key the next time you want to key into your vehicle since the doorhandle touch to unlock feature won't work when keyless go is disabled.

you can accidentally renenable the key while it bounces in your pocket completely reversing that. Can’t happen in a rfid case

yea that same need is why people can’t steal the signal walking up to you or your house. It has a pop lid. Easy open and use.

It cannot be enabled again without pushing a button. So yes maybe if the bouncing accidentally pushes a button but the mere jostling will not enable the keyless go once it has been disabled.

Edit: I realized that you're probably confusing the other keyless go feature where the key will go into a sleep mode when sitting still for a couple minutes and then it wakes up again once it moves. This is another protection from relay thefts but it's different from double pressing lock where keyless go will not turn on again until you push a button.

a button can be pressed in pocket accidentally to reenable the remote as easily as a button can (and does) get pressed to accident open the back door while you are at the mall. Not an issue if the device is in an RFID blocker.

Just wrap it in aluminum foil and stick it in your pocket. Lot less bulky than a little box with its own foil.
Classy, too.🙁

I have not found a key combination that disables e four button remote. The manual states it can be but is wrong.

Yes, only Keyless-Go part can be deactivated via that video method. This can be usefull for spare key, it will prevent signal capturing. Also it will save key battery.
If you want to totally deactivate all key buttons, I think only way is to remove key battery.

I have only deactivated trunk button for the main key and Keyless-Go part for the spare key.
