Tire Rotation

My 2020 GLE350 (RWD) has 20" wheel all around. I planned to rotate the tires, however, the front & rear tires have different offsets. If I rotate them, the front will be wider than the rear. Does anyone have this dilemma?

Thanks,

CL

Every one except those with 19s have this dilemma. I just don't rotate and find front/rear wear is not different enough to worry about.

I probably wasted some money but rotated mine at about 12,000 by having them switched on the wheels. The wheels look the same, so I had to show the skeptical employee the offset difference stamped on the wheels.

Yes, my GLE came with the P275 50/R20 Bridgestone Alenza run flat tires. I just had the dealer rotate them right to left at the 10k service. Got 30,865 miles out of them. The wore very even, no uneven wear road noise -- they are still quiet. The rear tires wore slight more than the front, but they are very close (within a mm).

My GLE is at the dealership now, replacing the OEM tires with a set of 4 Michelin Primacy Tour A/S, non-run flat tires.

The only issue I've had was on Monday I noticed the inside edge of the rear tire was worn at a 45 deg angle beginning approximately half an inch form the inside edge. I have a knocking sound emanating from the driver's side rear wheel well that has become constant...I suspect I have defective shocks, which may have contributed to the odd wear I see on the inside edge. It's odd because the wear on the rest of the tire is even and flat. You can hear the knocking on the attached video...anyone else experience something similar? The knocking noise starts at 5-10 mph.

If after tire replacement the noise is still there get them to look into it as it might be something else not the shocks doing that. It might be the strut mount or something else all together. Also make sure to get the car wheel aligned and double check your tire pressures.

Dealer told me when I had my 2017 GLE with same size tires, they don't usually rotate because they wear pretty even. You can ask the dealer.

So report from my service adviser is the knocking in the video are the rear shocks—they are bad and will be replaced.

Bad shocks…and yes they will do a 4 wheel alignment with the new tires/rear shocks.

Over 30k miles and finally replacing them. Wow! I just hit 27k and I’m now searching for my third set.

Both rear shocks replaced on 2020 450 with 27,000 miles. Knocking sound at low speed.
