How wide can I do?
To those who have the stock 21" AMG rims have you changed to a more wider tire? I am just curious how wide can you go and what size would it be. The stock tires on the 21" rims are a little bit stretch compared to the stock 20" AMG setup and I want to replicate the same look but on a 21" rim.

If you want more tire bulge you can use narrower rims but there are limits for each different tire. 8.5” is close to the narrowest for the factory 20” sizes. Using a narrow rim doesn’t change the tire tread location if the offsets are equal.
I made a spreadsheet when I was looking to go from a 21 to 22” setup…might still have it. It’s tough to find aftermarket wheels with higher offsets so I made a lot of calculations with wheels/offsets/tire sizes.
Maybe someone has actually run a wider setup and can give you their opinion.

If this link opens as I hope, I have it set up with suspension and fender clearances. 21" AMG GLE 53.
If it doesn't open like that, at least you have a good wheel-tire comparator.

Here’s a link to the factory tire sizes, wheels, offsets and circumferences. The 22” run a 285 front and 325 rear but the offsets are in toward the body. If you have lower offset wheels that pushes the wheel toward the fender. The front tire location is usually the most critical because of turning. You can plug the numbers in for comparison purposes to a tire size calculator to see the effect of different sizes. The difficult part will be to find a wider tire that doesn’t change Diameter from Stock very much. The first number on a tire is the tire width, metric-second number is the % of the width for the section height. If you get too out on these the Speedo is off…could be other consequences with driver assistance systems.

I tried the link and it does populate with AMG 53 specs, but it's easier to use on a computer than a phone.
I was looking for a wider tire for the front without changing the stock wheels. Unfortunately, when I found a perfect size on a 305, it turns out that nobody makes that size.
The search continues....

My source originally came from @GregW / Oregon
It allows things like suspension clearance (mine is 13/16”) to be entered.
Actually I think you also sent a link when you were fitting Winters.

Edit- not impressed with the Michelin CrossClimate tire. Works great until greasy snow or ice. No sipes!

Interesting feedback on the Cross Climate. Black Ice performance is probably my #1 concern.

I’m not sure exactly what you are after but there are several factors to consider. The factory 20/21” tires are both pretty wide. I put et45 wheels, 20” tires on my GLE 53 (factory 21”) for winter tires on 8.5” wheels. I used the factory front tire size on front and rear. This put the tire tread/bulge slightly wider than stock but close to the 22” tire position as I recall. You can use a tire size calculator to spec different sizes and outside/inside clearance changes. Just eyeballing the position of mine I wouldn’t feel comfortable pushing the limits much more. You risk rubbing inside the fender well on bumps where the tire compresses and even more if the wheel is turned when hitting a bump.
