[QUOTE=mb2be;8691218]Wife called saying she had low pressure message. Da@@ only 7k on the clock. Looked it up to see where has one in stock. Some do but they’re all for customers. Ready for repair and order a new one. The tech checked out and said, “I can order you one but you are totally fine with the repair.” So I went with it. They took it off, repaired, re-balanced. What do you guys think about this? Safe for long distance? He said I would be fine. Would you replace?
On the way home I realized how luxurious this thing is (I only drive once in awhile and have not driven for two months). Such a fine vehicle. I just drove below speed limit and enjoyed the Christmas music. Tried to find a reason to drive longer. Filled her up even with 3/4 full. Merry Christmas folks!

You're fine, the location of the nail is center tread. Mine came with Run Flat Tires, and I got a nail in the same location (Rt Rr Tire) at about the same mileage. Had it plugged and put 30K miles on that tire with no issues.

I wouldn't replace that tire, that's easily repairable. If they patched it from the inside, then I wouldn't even give it a second thought because it'll basically be like it never happened.

Love the 22mpg on the 63S while Highway speeding at 75-80, massive looks and stance of the AMG (even compared to the X5MC), superior luxury and size

Tire is fine with a repair in that location. Tires don't "pop" like a balloon. They leak slowly thus the TPMS does a great job in that regard. Did my part recently to help keep the streets clean and safe by removing and having one less nail on them. This one was not repairable because of the location.

@mb2be I was in the same boat last Saturday afternoon. Dealership was closed, so I went to local mechanic. He plugged and patched it. I questioned why both, he said it was better. Probably just another way to double charge me - LOL. It was only $35.

Plug & patch is pretty standard. There is a local tire chain here that does it for free.

The patch seals the leak, and the plug prevents water intrusion that might compromise the patch.

Tiny holes might not need the plug, since it's a tradeoff by reaming the hole to enlarge it, to accept the plug.
A good tire person will know the best way. Unfortunately there aren't many left these days.

I always thought that too, but my tires hop INSISTED one time they could patch a hole in that spot, and since I was there to buy 4 new tires and they were convincing me to let them plug it for free, I gave it a shot. Got another 20,000 miles out of that set of tires and the patch held.

Same here. I did look at the site and saw mine was in the repairable zone. But because this is family's long distance vehicle, I was ready to go in to plug and order. He convinced me not to unless I just wanted a new tire.

I had something similar happen on my tire. The leak was very very slow and I could not even find the nail that was in my tire. Luckily a tire place 3 doors down from my office found the nail and plugged
it for only $15.

The only thing I was not happy about was they did not trim the plug and there is a lot of excess "plug" on the tire. I know they say it will wear down as it's driven on, but usually I always cut it so there's
a good amount left for the area and it can blend properly with the tire. So far it has held for the past month or two.

Why not just trim it yourself? That would bother me too.

I had one of my tires fixed with a plug before, after watching the guy do it and discovering it was so easy, I've done a few more similar repairs myself. They've all held (also none were near a sidewall).

Why not take it to a nearby Discount Tire and have them do it for free for you? They do more than plugging. They unmount the tire, plug, patch, re-balance. All for free.

And they'll Road Force Balance, too. Nice service.

They'll scan your tread depth too, and report the lowest - with a fancy scan tool they carry out while they log you in and read the VIN & mileage.

But beware, DT is very strict on damage beyond the belts. Corporate Policy. You might have to buy a tire to leave.

Their Free Balance gives them an opportunity to establish a relationship with owners. It's an effective strategy. Most of their stores are well run, which is handy on cross country trips.

They've had some staff shortages the past year, like everywhere, so I pay more attention when my car's in the bay. Like everywhere.

I've only had good experiences with Discount Tire and never had them refuse to work on a tire that needed patching (but I've also never asked them to patch a tire that was showing cords or at the wear bars, either). Back when I had a Cayman I was looking for some Michelin Pilot Super Sports and there was only one rear in stock locally and the best they could do for the pair was about 2+ weeks, so I told them to just go ahead and install some Pirelli PZeros which they could do next day. Four hours after I left I get a call from one of the store associates telling me they found the second rear Michelin I needed and would have it by the end of the week. Most places would have forgotten about me 5 seconds after I walked out of the store, especially considering I had committed to purchasing the other tires. I know it's only anecdotal but I've never had a bad experience at Discount Tire and I've gone to about four of them in Houston, TX region.

I finally put my response to the OP's, @mb2be question together. It was hard to narrow to three, but over time these stood out.

It's a '21 AMG GLE53, Dynamic Plus Package w/ ARC 48v active suspension. 21,000 miles. 21" tires.

3 likes, plus a Bonus:
+Meets my #1 requirement for any auto: Responsive. Step on the gas it goes, turn the wheel it turns, and step on the brakes it stops, with minimal wasted motion.
+Versatile and fun. Forest Service trails, sanctioned road courses, effortless comfortable and economical high-speed touring. Large capacity but drives like a smaller car.
+Nice looks for an SUV, retaining physical switches for many functions, plus choice of input methods for Infotainment. ARC Suspension Makes The Car.

+Bonus Like- Surprisingly, I like and selectively use Nannies for long distance driving - Active Lane Keeping, Active Steering, Lane Change, and Stop and Go Assists. I've come to trust them.

3 Dislikes plus a Bonus:
-Base Burmester is disappointing - an insult to the car.
-Front storage gets smaller every generation. Hard, unpadded plastic door pockets. USB and 12v outlets inadequate.
-Limited tire selection in 21" & 22" sizes. Need more front tire grip.
-Bonus Dislike- Miss the cornering lights. Slow self parking (but I see that RJ Automotive ID'd Slow Parking as a Euro law that they can un-code). Massage seats need to be restarted too often.

I like the car, but I wish I hadn't omitted the 3D Burmester.

My biggest and probably only complaint is the lack of recognition between key fobs. Even nissan has this capability for god's sake. My Volvo has two keys and I keep one and my wife keeps hers. When I open the door after she drove it, the car automatically adjusts the seat and mirror to my settings. This is a 10 year old Volvo.

Instead I have to push the seat memory button for my new GLE. Then when I get in I push my name in the console and it proceeds to adjust to my wife's settings like a car from 1998.

What a ****ing joke for a six figure car and a Mercedes after all.
