Assuming all works as designed, name 3 things you like/dis-like most about this car

Please no reliability discussion in here.

For me:
Likes:
1. Excellent long distant travel
2. The car senses when I'm near a curve and turns on the 360 camera
3. Spacious inside but compact enough outside.

Dis-likes:
1. Engine shuts off when door is opened
2. Tiny/wired CarPlay
3. Too sensitive/loud when detecting objects near by in paths of potential collision

What about you?

On dislike #3, not sure if you're aware but there's a setting you can disable to "Warn early" which makes it less sensitive. I recall in the same settings menu there's a slider to change the volume/tone of the warning.

Likes:
1. Excellent long distant travel, the 4 cylinder engine has plenty of power for me
2. The fuel economy
3. Spacious inside but compact enough outside.

Dis-likes:
1. Engine shuts off when door is opened
2. Key Fob has no remote start and is generally poor.
3. No way to disable the trackpad on the center console. I constantly bump it when using the cupholder.

Yeah I tried that. I ended up turning it off per her request. I don't blame her. Sometimes when turning (left), it just went off. Very bizarre. I never experienced this in any other cars.

It could be a dirty or defective sensor.

Another possibility is traffic alert for oncoming danger. Sometimes I think that alert is overly sensitive, but then I realize there was something approaching pretty quickly, farther away than I thought the car would notice.

@mb2be even without reliability thoughts, this thread may drift from time to time, because sometimes there might be an easy fix for a disliked feature.

I'm trying to limit to only 3 things I like, but its the whole package. Workin on it.

My dislikes are First World problems, like the massage having to be restarted. The Horror.

GLE W167
Likes [W167 i.e., 450]
- Super quiet, wafting ride, made for long distance travel; and it is no slouch when you stomp on the pedal. All this with excellent fuel efficiency (same as my Mazda6, so I either I drive Mazda like a maniac or am still baby'ing the Merc!) for a car of this size (not that this is a factor when you buy a car like this, but I just admire how efficient the engine/48V combo is!)
- Excellent comfort/convenience features - massage, air suspension, camera, parking - I am almost spoilt with this car
- Fab audio system - takes fatigue out of long boring Interstate drives (planning one Looooo...ng drive to South from VA this year end and can't wait!)

Dislikes:
- AC - how you shouldn't use re-cycle etc., (and attendant smell which was a last week entry in my car, though I have learnt to switch on the A/C Rest and also have run the heat mode in full blast, which is kind of making it bearable but I have some work to do on the weekend to check/change the cabin air filter etc.,)
- Wipers - noisy, judder etc., [before I get flamed - they are new and wiper blade compound is a non-issue plus I've oriented the blade to be 90-deg to the glass using a couple of pliers; plus I've done everything except use some strong detergent/cleaner like Barkeep's friend to strip the windshield of whatever film/coating that was on; it is better but nowhere close to my Mazda6 which has silken smooth wipers even after 4 years. In fact, our X3 didn't have this issue at all even after 3 years]

This comment completely encapsulates this place and why there aren’t more people willing to discuss their cars here: people get flamed for posting issues. There’s nothing wrong with posting concerns. That’s one of the main points of this place.

Hmmm I wondered actually, if it is good thing it "takes breaks", I heard having massage too long can strain your muscle, I don't know

Totally valid points. I didn't actually think hard before posting. The wipers and Recirc can not stay on are no joke.

2021 GLE 450
Likes:
Seats/Interior Spaciousness: best ever and lots of back seat room for adult passengers
Highway Ride: kind of wafty, but super comfortable
GLE450 I-6 Engine: good power, smooth, an engineering delight (too bad what it's bolted to is a POS)

Dislikes:
Transmission: Clunky downshifts, confused operation, hunts for gears, inconsistent performance
Wipers: Weak, juddery, total abomination
Stereo: sounds terrible - no real bass, just a thump-thump boom sound, plus navigation through folders on a USB drive is clumsy and not thought out

2021 GLE450
Likes:
  1. Strong, smooth power delivery
  2. Impressive straight six fuel efficiency, relatively speaking
  3. Having three ways to interface with infotainment system

Dislikes:
  1. Cargo capacity can't be increased by sliding rear seats forward or even adjusting rear seatbacks more upright
  2. I'd prefer more physical buttons - especially for audio functions
  3. Harsh downshifting when rolling to a stop

2020 GEL 450 w/ E-ABC

Likes:
  • Great trip car, but also plenty spunky for spirited driving
  • Good fuel economy for the power
  • Good utility (cargo space, towing, etc.) w/o being too large. Wish load floor at second row was flat, though.
Meh:
  • Overly complex MBUX
  • No wireless CarPlay (mine is full screen, though)
  • Cannot set suspension to automatically lower when parking
As an aside, we have had virtually zero issues in 3 1/2 years, 30k miles. NO wiper or AC issues.

Interested in the full screen bit, how is that done?

Sorry, I don't use CarPlay much. Was thinking of full-screen navigation.

2021 GLE 350

Likes:
  1. Styling - the AMG with Night package really makes the GLE stand out amongst its competitors.
  2. Very comfortable ride, especially for long distance.
  3. AMG line seats with the MB-Tex/DINAMICA do not get too hot in the summer and not to cold in the winter time.
  4. Bonus - I am tall (6'5) and this is the ONLY vehicle on the market that I know of where I can fully stand under the liftgate and NOT hit my head on it!
Dislikes:
  1. Transmission - I feel like it lags sometimes between the 2-4 gears. Also when in bumper to bumper traffic it jerks.
  2. The navigation in the driver's display is not available in full screen unless you have the AR package with the upgrades radio.
  3. Mercedes Me Connect - needs ALOT of work and more functionality. With the technology in these cars, I should be able to adjust the AC, heating seats, etc. Also it should actually WORK properly.
  4. Bonus - Remote start, when it actually works, only lasts for 10 minutes and when the car is unlocked, it turns off.

The transmission seems to be a common theme. Mercedes should be embarrassed for designing and actually using this hunk of junk. The engineer(s) who designed this, and the manager that approved it, are the reasons this car has so many issues. It all starts there.

Well Greg, consider yourself lucky. The transmission is garbage. It clunks a lot on downshifts and at least for me, it won’t upshift. Someone else just reported the same issue here a few days ago.

I don't doubt that there are many units that are not performing optimally, given the thousands produced. But your blanket statement about poor design cannot be true given that the vast majority seem to be just fine;. I understand your frustration, but yours is not typical. Have you documented the issue by video and had repairs attempted?

  1. Smooth and Seamless I6 + Start/Stop
  2. Beautiful Exterior Design and Color (Emerald Green)
  3. Large Backseats and Practicality

Dislikes:
  1. Memory Not Tied to Keys
  2. Seat Heating Levels Automatically Decrease
  3. Lower Door Panels Could Be Nicer

We upgraded from a GLC 300 purely because we wanted a larger backseat and 6-Cylinder engine and the GLE has been excellent.

Greg, why don’t you scroll up and see how many other people feel the same way. I know it’s a small sample size, but I think there’s enough evidence here from other posts to safely say the transmission is a POS.

But we agree to disagree.

What exactly does that mean? I’m not posting to carry favor with anyone. If people don’t like what I have to say, that’s fine, I’m not trying to impress anyone. I’m saying my opinions without prejudice.
