My salesman told me heated seats would come on with remote start if they were on when I shut off vehicle. Obviously, that turns out to not be true. He also told me that it had articulating headlights, and run flats - also not true. Maybe he used to be a Ford salesman and forgot where he was - LOL. Dang, who would have ever thought a salesman to be anything but truthful?

Unfortunately some salesman will tell you what they think you want to hear so they can sell you the car. Others don't know what they're doing. Lol. As for the seat warmer, it's the same with BMW. Even left on before shutting off engine, when remote start, the seat warmer is reset to off. This may be safety issue because if left on for 15-20 minutes it can get hot.

I believe the seat warmer will not heat unless someone is actually sitting in the seat. The indicators on the door will light but I don't think the heat will engage. You can try this with your passenger seat to see if I am correct.

I tested mine this morning. It does heat, even without a passenger in the seat. I do have rapid heating option; not sure if that makes a difference.

Just tested mine. It does heat without someone sitting there. I have the rapid heating seats. Sorry if I added any confusion.

OP wanted to know how to have the heated seats turn on when remote starting. I believe we all pretty much agreed that it is not an option. The thread then progressed to why doesn't passenger heated seat turn on when the passenger is not in the vehicle. A couple of us, who have rapid heating option, confirmed that is does turn on without the passenger being present; while some without rapid heating have confirmed that theirs doesn't.

Buy a BMW X5. If they’re driving Mercedes for 30 years and having five GLEs, I bought a X5 last May from BMW and it does all the things I wish my GLE did like being able to set seat warmer seat, ventilation steering wheel heating oil when your remote start.

Newer MBs with MBUX 3.0 Routine feature might finally let you have the seat heater turn on as desired.

I have rarely used the remote start function as my car is garaged and I am a fairly low milage driver (6k miles/year), but have very recently used it twice since it's gotten pretty cold. Both times when I got in the vehicle, the steering wheel was quite warm when I got it. I was pleasantly surprised! I did not pay attention to anything else (i.e. the seats, and arm rests) as this was unexpected. I'll pay attention next time.
To confirm, I did not leave the heated steering wheel on when I shut it off/parked either time.

and by someone that clearly never owned a Mercedes. Prior to computers individual memory for this function, Mercedes seat heating slowly lowers temperature, and turns off as a normal part of its function and has so for at least the past 25 years. Some models in the 2005-2010 range had a memory where if you restarted the car within about 15 minutes, it would save the last settings of the seat heating. That’s not been the case in a long time afaik.

My current 2025 GLE53 does turn the seat heaters on when the car is restarted within x minutes (maybe 15-30 minutes?) of turning it off (if seat heater was on when car was turned off). I’m pretty sure that my 2020 did the same thing.
However it only does this with in person start, it doesn’t seem to do it with remote start

• Automatic climate control (cabin air)
• Seat heating
• Steering wheel heater (if equipped)
• Mirror heater
• Rear window defroster
