Just another point of consideration btw, the built-in dashcam also has to be set to record every time you start the car, it doesn't automatically start recording. See this UK reviewer's video from a year ago: https://youtu.be/cqGlOtTjmz0?t=386
There was another thread about the dashcam here that went over some other odd issues too: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...5-dashcam.html
Not sure if anything has changed in the last year or two for the US (due to NHTSA approval), but some more searching did bring up this thread from the 2021+ S class forum that showed auto-loop being an option on that car now at least: https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...uto-start.html
Overall I decided against it for my 2023 GLE order since the quality is just 720p and I find it easier to replace an aftermarket dashcam as things break or features improve over time.
I've seen a lot of Nick's videos. He even pointed out that you can make a shortcut favorite, so that you can find it easier. ONe of the things I like about my Blackvue is that I simply set it and forget it. Of course, you'll have to have a notebook computer handy to show the police at the scene the video, in case of an accident, but that's a small point. I like the fact that my Blackvue doesn't look like a camera. The idea of the Mercedes dashcam is good, but the 720p really should be a show-stopper. It does have the auto-looping feature, and it is OEM, but I'll just have to get a circuit tester and fuse puller and hardwire it myself, although Blackvue has gotten more expensive in the past nine years.
It stays in my pocket, the Carlinkit dongle sits in the charging pad which I hardly ever use. If I need to charge the phone, which frankly is hardly ever, I plug it into one of the ports in the armrest bin.
We have three cars, one has wireless CarPlay built in and the other two - including the GLE - use the Carlinkit dongles. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
