Had the B service done to my GLE yesterday and came home only to notice the tow hitch cover is missing. Probably got lost when they washed my car.
Anyways, I don't want to go back there and waste my time so I was searching a replacement on Amazon. Came across this LED cover that basically acts as a 3rd brake light. The light is supposed to blink rapidly for a second when brakes are initially applied then stay lit. I'm thinking this could help prevent being rear-ended?
I'd say, to each his own. In looking at the reviews, it does show 4 stars. If it will give you more piece of mind, then go for it! It's your vehicle so do what you want. Would I do it? Possibly.
Speaking of blinking brake light. Does the US 3rd brake light blink during hard braking like they do in Europe?
I've actually seen some late model cars with pulsating brake lights. Wasn't sure if that was OEM or some kind of modification, but it's really attention getting and I think they should make it mandatory for all cars.

I tried an LED light that plugged into the factory electrical plug for a trailer hookup but had to remove it. Sorry that I don't recall the exact problem but there was some issue either with the alarm which alerts the driver to an object when backing or with the backup display. Perhaps someone else can give you better info, but this may not work the way you'd like.

I just got the part today so I'll find out soon enough it if will work or not. Hope it does work but no biggie if it doesn't.

As I recall now the backup alarm sounded
every the time I put the car in reverse as if there was an object behind. Plugging in the hitch light apparently appeared to the software that I had a trailer behind. This was annoying so I decided not to use the light on the trailer hitch connected to the factory electrical connector.
