I just found the wheel nut top shape is special, not the regular hexagon shape.
Is costco able to remove the tires?

If they have the right tool.

Tire rotation can be done by any human currently living on the planet, if they have the right tools, facility and know-how. This is not a dealer-exclusive job.

Hahah! Chassis said any human....hahaha!!

But really, I'd suggest Discount Tire if you have one nearby. They do it all day, everyday and I personally would not go anywhere else, especially the stealer

The “Flower” sockets are available for sale (i.e. Amazon) and aren’t that unusual. As I recall, the Merc SUV takes a 17mm.

Apparently hex socket will fit but it can and will eventually ruin your the bolt heads. My assumption is that the big tire stores probably get enough MB OEM summer tires replaced so often that they have the right socket, but doesn't hurt to ask.

It was also recommended to put one in with your spare tire (if you have one) along with an 18" breaker bar. The spare comes with a hex wrench and hex bolts but I don't want to risk stripping my flower bolts when removing the OEM wheels.

For my W166, I purchased a flower socket on Amazon and kept it in the box with the lug bolt lock key. Whenever I had work done outside the dealership that required removal of the wheels, I would give this to the advisor.

I did this because the regular socket stripped many a flower head bolt.

Ultimately depends on your strength. Could go 24" for more torque.

Most Costcos, etc. will probably not have that socket. I suggest you buy one (https://www.ultimategarage.com/shop/...oducts_id=8303) and provide it wherever you go.

Also, you don't say what wheels you have, but unless it's the 19s you cannot simply switch front to rear because the offsets are different. Mercedes make some questionable choices sometimes!

A regular 17mm works. Just had mine off yesterday. No issues.
Also, as mentioned above, my rear offset is different from the front.... why Mercedes.... why.
Similar to the older BMW X5 that had different hub bore diameters front and rear... seriously.

Yes, it will work. After repeated use though, the aluminum cover will deform.

Got it and thanks.
My F150 has a similar issue. Regular hex style and is a cover... and they deform as well. I think the impact is the culprit to the damage.
I stopped using it to break loose and tighten... only to spin off faster.

Every time my tires get rotated, I have to deal with noise and vibration. I finally stopped having them rotated, and just deal with replacing the tires a little earlier.

Here's an explanation of ET Offset, which is the reason why you can't just simply rotate your wheels on a 20" which have different offsets for rear vs front:

As Wildta says, every size except the 19s are different front & rear. Royal pain.

Tires must be dismounted & remounted. Better IMO to just replace F&R separately if necessary, as you would with the staggered setups. With AWD the wear rate is not dramatically different.

From BMWUSA for the base X5 xDrive40i. No staggered setup, same offsets front and rear.

If you decide to rotate them…the best deal I could find was Discount Tire. They did my 2020 at about 12k for $80 including Hunter road force balancing. That was almost 3 years ago so prices are probably higher.

They put my Summers on for the same $80 this Spring.

(Unfortunately, left with 55psi left, 32 right. Lost my valve caps and cross threaded the generic ones. Mostly trainees. Refunded my $80. Nobody wants to work these days.)
