Radio stops when on phone
Radio stops when on phone
Hi all; new owner of a 2022 GLE 350 4matic which I love (mostly). But there are a few sticky things that I cannot resolve, and I have combed this forum and others and cannot find where anyone else is either complaining about it or has a solution.
When the phone rings, I might answer it through the vehicle or my Bluetooth earpiece. Most times I will answer it through my earpiece, because I don't want others in the car to have to listen to my conversation and I take a lot of calls in the car. What I have found is, once the call is transferred to my Bluetooth earpiece, the radio will no longer play. This is whether I am using the car directly or Android Auto. This is absolutely something all of my other cars have been able to do, including when Android Auto is activated---the phone should no longer be using the MBUX/Vehicle resources once the call is in my ear. I understand if I were using a phone resource, such as Youtube Music or Apple Music---but why does the actual CAR block me from using the radio or Sirius when on the phone?
I have looked at every setting and the manual. I have unpaired my phone altogether an deauthorized, yet MBUX keeps forcing itself back on to the phone. I have unselected "calls" on the connection, and it will force it back. I renamed the phone, and it has forced its way back.
This seems like it should be possible---if I had a passenger's phone paired, I wouldn't be able to listen to the radio while they were on the phone? Am I missing something, or is everyone that uses the phone simply using it in silence in the car? Thanks.

Most people don't want the radio playing while they are on a phone call. Because your phone is connected to BT the car knows a call is connected whether its using its BT system, your headset or the handset. So, its helping you by muting the phone.

I think I saw a option somewhere on the MBUX that you can unmute the radio while the phone is active or something like that or it might be for the navigation. Try going through the MBUX system options as there are a few of them to look at.
Yes I recall a similar option somewhere in the menu.
Ditto. I'll try to find the setting when I drive today.
please report back, I've tried everything. Between Mercedes Me being offline the last 2 days and this phone/radio issue, i am starting to regret this purchase. It rides beautifully, but working tech is what keeps my eyes on the road and not having to constantly fiddle with stuff while driving.

My Android phone has the option of speaking through the phone, earbuds or another named BT connection.
Make sure that your phone settings aren't competing with the car.
On our GLE, there's also an icon that pops up when on a call that allows you to select which device you want to converse on - phone or car. (The car is a "device" in this context.)

my radio just stopped when the mobile was connected and when you tried to start the radio it would start for a couple of seconds and stop. The only way I got the radio working was to power the mobile off , wait a few seconds and power back on, it worked but see what happens next time 🤷♂️
