Lightbulb 2020 GLE450 gets 40 mpg in ECO mode

To those that say this is impossible please study the graph below. The average fuel economy on a recent road trip shows 29.8 average mpg which in itself is quite impressive. But if you study the y-axis for a majority of the journey the mpg flirted with an astonishing 40 mpg. The numbers don’t lie, I filled my tank and traveled well over 600 miles; the range still showed ~248 miles to go.at the conclusion of the trip. This was made possible using ECO mode which uses the 48V mild hybrid drive and enabled coasting whenever possible… which Mercedes call “sailing”. I call it truly amazing. Just wanted to share this with the community. Curious if anyone had anyone had a similar experience.

40 would be nice but I think the best number to focus on is the average.

That's true.
My 2020 GLE 450 usually got 31+ on trips, averaging 60+ mph (cruising at 84mph}.
Better than a 350 loaner we had for a week, and better than our GLC300.
All without Sailing or hypermiling.

Are you saying that you went 600 miles on one 22 gallon tank and still had enough fuel for 248 more miles? That would be an average of over 38 mpg. Did you get the dilithium crystal option?

Yes, all on one full tank of gas I went 600 miles and the range still showed 248 miles. Since my trip was over I just refilled my tank as I don’t like to run the level down below 1/4. I know most folks here on the forum don’t drive the GLE in-line 6 like going to church on Sunday’s but I was just trying to prove what’s possible. If you haven’t experienced driving like you’re on cruise control at 60 mph with your foot off the accelerator and the rpm’s at zero, let me tell you how addictive it is.

This seems to be pretty normal for this vehicle, it’s now broken in and I’d say this mileage is pretty good. I didn’t do much coasting, a little bit but not much. I also put my foot in it several times, damn thing is fun to drive.

???
How are you able to use distonic in comjunction with ECO mode? My distronic disengages as soon as I select ECO in MY22, GLE450., or perhaps, it just doesn't "sail" - i forgot which; it has been a while.

I'm in Eco mode nearly all the time and have no issues using distronic.

443 miles to empty after using up a quarter tank. Nice work. 👏🏾

Agreed, all while averaging 68mph!🙂
That would be a lot of 85mph driving, and that's where you start to run into a lot of wind and mileage falls off.
I see those numbers on my 53, IF I stay below 85. Running 90 drops it to 24-5 highway.

I can’t coast and use distronic. If I have a good downhill, I hit cancel on the cruise and the car will coast. I did that several times during the drive. Inuit resume when the speed is too low. Again, I do play with this but during this drive I d just drove and didn’t worry about much.

Even 24-25MPG @ 90MPH is equally impressive for our heavy vehicles cutting thru that much wind. I rarely do freeway driving so I don't take much notice with my MPGs other than my estimated miles until empty gets a very nice boost upwards -- this is on a 580. My "city" driving in my neighborhood patch where I do 90% of my driving and consists of a lot of hills and way too many stops, I get an abysmal 13mpg. If I drove a lot, I'd care more but I only drive around a 100mi a week on avg.

Is there a way to have to car default to ECO mode? Every time I start up I'm in Comfort Mode.
