2021 GLE 350 Break pads wearing out to fast

Just received an email that my break pads need service. I did notice them making a slight scratching sound. I first changed my front breaks when I had about 20k miles on my car, now I’m hitting 40k and it’s time. Why are they wearing out so fast?

I only drive the car to work which is about 15 miles each way and it’s 90% freeway driving. I got a quote last time from MB they wanted over $1000 for breaks and Service B. I wind up finding a reputable MB service center and had the front breaks, oil and filter changed for $550. Service B is coming up, should I cough up the $1k and take it to Mercedes for the service?

What or who was the email from? If your brake pad wear indicator light is not on, usually you have substantial life left in the brakes. Dealers are slimy that way, they recommend that you pay for things you don’t need. Dealers, especially MB dealers, are pretty slimy.

If your brake warning light is not on, you have a decent amount of life left in the brakes. It's your call on whether you pay for new brakes now, or when the pad wear warning light illuminates.

The light just came on in the car. My question is, is it normal for them to wear out that fast, only 20k miles?

I have just over 20k miles and no issues with my brakes.

Do you use driver assistance? I read somewhere in the past that driver assistance uses up the brakes faster.

Yes, I believe the lane keeping assist uses the brakes.

I do but only turn on all of the assistance options on long trips which don't happen that often. I do have route based speed enabled all the time and that should engage often.
