Agree with SMG12836. We took our GL450 to Safelite a few years back and they scratched the **** of the paint along the hood edge near the wipers.

2024 GMC Canyon Denali..... 2018 Audi SQ5
I have had good luck with Safelight on both a new Mercedes GLE 53 windshield (they put in OEM) and with chip repairs. They are the first firm that had the new equipment to treat rock chips and most of the damage visibly disappears...unlike previous repairs. Come to your home or take it there.
They were unable to calibrate my camera because of the late hour and a 2 hour time difference of the contact person. My camera and Distronic worked great without calibration but I had calibration checked the next service visit. My car fenders were covered with protective mats so no paint damage.
There are thousands of locations with numerous employees so results probably vary. Putting in a windshield isn't that complicated and if thats all you do all day??? You might just do a better job than others. My local shop has a 4.5 star rating on Google.
Edit...IR glass in my 53.

OEM windshield Calibration

I can not stress enough any shop that tells you OEM MB windshields are self calibrating you need to run from. All MB’s beside a few of the Sprinters are a static calibration meaning target based. If it was a Dynamic calibration “driving the vehicle” it might not need calibration if you could access it in the BCM. But that is not the case. Currently the only vehicle that offers self calibration is Tesla but not after a windshield replacement. Tesla is a static then dynamic after a windshield replacement. As a matter of fact after a windshield replacement on a MB the rain sensor should be assigned to the windshield with a scan tool. Most shops don’t do this and most of the time it doesn’t cause a problem but certainly can

Thanks for the heads up Blue. I have a few rocks dings in the windshield and wondered of the cost to replace it. They're not too bad yet, and I have unlimited Galss coverage on my insurance. Thank goodness no paint chips...yet. Knock on wood. lol

Presently 19 S560 SEDAN, 2014 XK, SOLD GLE 450e
I've had two Mercedes windshields and two side windows replaced by Safelite. They know how to calibrate the sensors. No worry at all about that. One Mercedes was a S560 Coup that some sorry person tried to break into in Rohnert Park Ca. The glass on the side was too tough (accustic laminated glass) for their method of breaking it.

The other was a S560 sedan with a rock chip and Safelite did a great job of replacing it. Unfortunatley it got another bee bee size crack about a month later by some sorry butt person hauling a trailer and couldn't keep the trailer on the pavement and sent a pebble into my windshield. Yet to replace it. Not in my line of vision. It'll cost me when I trade in a few months.
