Why don’t you compare BMW 7 series BMW vs S class. Secondly, all passenger car sales are decreasing every year. In Canada new passenger car sales represent only 16% of total new vehicle sales. The same thing is happening with all brands.Originally Posted by chassis

Latest generation of the X5.
BMWs have always had massive problems, but somehow they get a pass since car magazines have been shilling for them since the 1990s.

A neighbor just lemoned his X5 because of CEL and screen flicker. Had it since April and lemoned in June. He was about to get a GLE53 but didn't want to wait for custom order and happened to get a GTS with all the options he wanted straight off the lot. It's anecdotal but I'm a firm believer the grass isn't always greener on the other side.Originally Posted by RockChips

Mercedes, like everyone else, assembles the vehicle with a lot of parts from the supply chain…that has become unrealizable post pandemic. There’s a good chance that the part failure on your car came from such a supplier. First it was COVID causing employee turnover and absence of trained employees. Now it’s the ongoing demand for vehicles stretching supplier resources. I bought a new GMC truck and a Porsche Cayenne in the last year and both are being repurchased by the Manufacturer. My truck was disabled 12 days after purchase by an Over the Air Update and has been at the Dealer for 11 weeks waiting on parts. It’s no fun being one of the small percentage that have issues. Strong recommendation for the Cayenne. I have a 9Y0.1 current platform pre-facelift model. MY2024 is the first year for the 9Y0.2 cosmetic facelift.Originally Posted by cometguy

Great power, exhaust sound and handling in the S and above trims, with air suspension.
Hop over to rennlist where lots of owners can help you navigate the product landscape.
Porsche has a great CPO warranty, so preowned cars are an attractive alternative to a new one.
Small underpinnings changes for 2024 (V8 returns to the S trim, 2-chamber air springs and maybe a few other small things). The main changes for 2024 are exterior and interior cosmetics/styling.
.2 front exterior is universally liked. .2 rear seems to be majority think it's bad -- too much black unpainted plastic compared with .1.
Interior changes have polarized views - seems to be 50/50 like vs dislike. Most obvious changes are fewer square inches of leather and fewer square inches of leather-in-color. Dash-mounted gear select vs console-mounted. Taller sidewall tires which should help a bit with ride comfort. Some new color choices.
In the end, the .1 is a solid and in some ways better car than .2. Your timing is good now because there are fresh .1 cars available to compare vs .2, because the facelift has just started production in the summer of this year.
If avoiding interacting with a car dealer appeals to you, as it appeals to most people, buying a CPO .1 or in-stock .2 car allows the least amount of interaction with the clown show. Placing a factory order means painfully long involvement with the unnecessarily dramatic and time consuming ordering process.

My 2015 X5 diesel has been a maintenance nightmare. Leaking oil filter housing gaskets, dissolving interior trim (door handles), multiple check engine lights, changeover valves, injector replaced, and multiple recalls for EGR systems. Luckily BMW extended the warranty on the high pressure fuel pump which has a history of grenading and taking out the entire fuel system. Going back next month to fix the changeover valve they fixed a year ago.Originally Posted by RockChips

The Cayenne is a different animal based on trim levels and options. The Base model isn’t anything special so if comparing price points then you get more for your money with Merc. My last Mercedes was a 2021 GLE 53 @ $100k compared to my 2 year newer 23 Cayenne GTS was $150k so it’s not really a fair comparison. The Base Cayenne feels like a completely different vehicle. I haven’t driven the S model. Looks are subjective but to me the Mercedes AMG model is better looking. Porsche, new or old, still look a lot too much alike.
Both had issues but the Porsche had far more…lots of Tech, bad fuel pump, excess oil consumption and a drive train harmonic vibration that resulted in a Repurchase by Porsche a week ago. I can overlook some minor issues but not if they involve engine or drive train. The P transmission mates the torque converter and transfer case into one unit with the transmission. Mine had a vibration from the bearings where the “hang on” transfer case mated to the transmission, best guess! First diagnosed as exhaust it became worse over time. My concern is that other Dealer units had the same symptoms…initial response from Porsche “they all do it”. If you don’t use Paddle shifters to downshift or manual shift mode, most people will never notice. Maybe they don’t all do it, because only a dozen or so Forum members noticed a similar issue.
porsche “fit & finish” seems first class with my limited view of a dozen or so new P cars. The interior Club Leather color was matched to all interior trim pieces with Truffle Brown. The new interiors might not be as nice and there are changes to the leather and colors according to new owners.
I doubt that many production SUV’s handle as well as a properly optioned Cayenne. But then there’s not many places left that handling becomes a factor.

Latest G05 (also G01) are good. Prior F15 was good in the last couple of production years, as is usual and expected. B48 2.0 and B58 3.0 engines are solid. N/S63 4.4 is not bad now after 15 years in production.Originally Posted by RockChips

BMW has the best ZF8HP implementation in the industry; the B48 and B58 with the ZF box are sublime. iDrive from 5.0 was class leading when introduced and has remained at or near the top in the industry for UX.
BMW's star is rising and brightening.

Sorry, but my awful experience with a late model F15 BMW X5, trumps any positive experience anyone else might have with BMW. The X5 was designed by trolls and built by morons. BMW is on the fast track to failure and the brand will be likened to Yugo in the near future. Those who buy a BMW now are looking at used values quickly dropping to a negative value. The SS BMW has hit an iceberg and is sinking quickly…………………Originally Posted by chassis

Bro, the steering column ALWAYS fails on the BMW F15.
The sunroof ALWAYS leaks on the BMW F15.
BMW is a joke.

The older BMWs sucked too.
BMW E70 radiators repeatedly failed.
The windshield pumps, which are nearly impossible to replace, repeatedly failed.
The oil filter gasket housing would create the nastiest oil leak.
The engine would create a ticking noise in the cold because it wouldn't get enough oil.

Folks, no objection that pre-two-thousand-teens BMWs had their foibles. BMW is in a different zone now, a good zone, and getting better.
Hop over to bimmerpost and see.
Better yet, buy a new BMW and report back.

How many recalls does the G05 have?
10?
And they are serious recalls, like losing control of the car.

The Mercedes complaints are limited to the 48v cars.
The BMW complaints are on every powertrain.

So, starting from 2024, all GLE cars are 48V enabled cars. They also moved from ISG Gen 1 (belt driven) to ISG Gen 2 (transmission mounted), time will say how 2024+ cars perform.Originally Posted by RockChips
